A Catholic Priest, Rev Fr Anthony Kanu of St Vincent Catholic Church, Oshodi-Apapa, Lagos has charged Christians to remain committed in their fellowship with Jesus for a perfect relationship with God.
Rev Fr Kanu, a professor of Religion who gave the charge today at the tenth Priestly Anniversary Thanksgiving Mass of Rev Fr Bernerd Iheanyichukwu Oleru, the parish priest of St Martin of Tour Catholic Church, Igbodo in Ika North East, commended the Igbodo community for embracing Christ.
He said despite trials and tribulations, Christians must strive for divine perfection, stressing the need for children of God to widen the scope of His congratulations.
The Catholic Priest who prayed for continued divine grace for the celebrant, Rev Fr Oleru, challenged him never to be distracted but to remain a priest that is always present with his people.
Speaking on the theme “Priesthood and Sacrifice”, the Catholic Priest commended Rev Fr Oleru for his uncommon determination to win more souls for Christ and for being such a hardworking Priest who he said in less than two years transformed the Catholic Church in Igbodo to such an enviable standard.
He urged Rev Fr Oleru to see his ten years in the service of God’s vineyard as a stepping stone, saying that all experiences gathered so far should be used for the benefit of mankind.
The celebrant, Rev Fr Oleru said though it has not been easy for the past ten years, the grace of God was sufficient for him to move on his choice to serve God all his life.
Rev Fr Oleru who is also the Spiritual Leader of Adorable Jesus Ministry thank God for giving him the opportunity to serve Him as a catholic priest and rededicated his life to doing God’s work.
The traditional ruler of Igbodo kingdom, Obi Barr Ikechukwu Osedume said Rev Fr Bernerd Oleru is not only a blessing to Igbodo Community, but Delta State and congratulated him for his tenth year ordination anniversary.
Speakers at the event, including the President General, Igbodo Development Union, IDU Worldwide, Deacon Mathew Okwaje, the Iyase of Igbodo kingdom, Dr Ifeanyi Unomah, Ambassador Joe Keshi, Dr Martin Okonkwo, Mrs Mary Nkem-Nwaeke, Victor Iloba, Mrs Fillipa Keshi and Mrs Pat Ajufo, Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Environment, commended Rev Fr Bernerd Oleru for his commitment to the work of God.
They described him as a true servant of God, saying that his scope of evangelism was enormous.
The mass featured special thanksgiving and cutting of anniversary cake as well as cultural displays.
