Late Prof. J.P. Clark.
Prof. John Pepper Clark, the renowned poet, author and literary giant is dead, according to a statement by family members released today.
The statement signed by Prof. C. C. Clark for the family, and Ilaye Clark, for the children disclosed that the emeritus professor of literature died in the early hours of today, Tuesday, October 13, 2020. He was aged 86.
Excerpts from the statement reads: “The Clark-Fuludu Bekederemo family of Kiagbodo Town, Delta State, wishes to announce that Emeritus Professor of Literature and Renowned Writer, Prof. John Pepper Clark, has finally dropped his pen in the early hours of today, Tuesday, 13 October, 2020.
“Prof. J. P. Clark has paddled on to the great beyond in comfort of his wife, children and sibling, around him.
“The family appreciates your prayers at this time. Other details will be announced later by the family,” the statement reads.
The author of the popular novel, America Their America, among others, was a younger brother to elder statesman, former Federal Commissioner for Information and respected South South and Ijaw national leader, Chief Edwin Kiagbodo Clark.
One of his very famous poems on Ibadan reads:
