The Delta State Chief Judge, Honourable Justice Marshal Umukoro has read the Riot Act on Zero-tolerance on corruption to judicial staff in the State.
Justice Umukoro handed down the warning during a meeting held today 8th June, 2017 in Asaba with court registrars, assistant registrars and exhibit keepers in various courts in Delta North Judicial Divisions of the State.
The Chief Judge berated some staff of the Judiciary serving in open courts across the State for indulging in various acts of sharp practices, including extortion of money from litigants and their relations before carrying out their official duties.
He warned that anyone caught in the act would be made to face the full wrath of the law, even as he disclosed that security agents had been alerted to be on the watch out for such deviant ones.
He advised staff of the Judiciary to be diligent, honest, and hardworking, imploring them to live within their income to avoid circumstances, which would make them vulnerable to financial pressure and impropriety.
Responding on behalf of his colleagues, the senior registrar of High Court of Justice, Owa-Oyibo, Mr. Kester Isumbor thanked the Chief Judge for organizing such important meeting to forewarn them, pledging to be diligent, honest and to avoid any form of unwholesome practice that would bring the integrity of the Judiciary into disrepute.
The meeting which featured question and answer session was also attended by the Chief Registrar, High Court of Justice, Mrs C.I. Dafe and the Director of Ligation, Mrs Judith Edomwonye.
