Delta State Commissioner for Information, Dr. Ifeanyi Osuoza and Sir Festus Ahon, the Chief Press Secretary to Governor Sheriff Oborevwori were on Saturday, December 21, 2024 bestowed with Medal Awards by the leadership of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) Zone ‘F’ South-South.
The award ceremony which was the climax of the “Eight Days Intensive Capacity Enhancement Programme for Journalists in the Niger Delta/Awards Night” and held at the Faarah Lounge, Off Aba Road, Port Harcourt was made to commend and encourage them for the exemplary way they have discharged the responsibilities of their respective offices in managing the media and communication for the administration of Governor Sheriff Oborevwori.
The NUJ Zone ‘F’ South South led by Comrade Opaka Dokubo, Vice president, Zone ‘F’ NUJ and Comrade John Angese, Zonal Secretary, NUJ said South-South leaders of the NUJ thought it necessary to recognise the good work of the recipients whose engagements have made citizens to be informed and enlightened about what the administration in their states are doing through communication. “The governments are doing quite a lot, and people get to know about them by the activities of those saddled with the communication and media management. And we commend the recipients of the awards for it,” Comrade Angese said.
Dr. Osuoza was represented at the event by his Media Adviser, Deacon Chukwudi Abiandu, who also received the awards on behalf of the Honourable Commissioner and the Chief Press Secretary.
In his short remarks, Dr. Osuoza commended the NUJ Zone ‘F’ South-South leadership for deeming it necessary to hold the eight days intensive capacity building for journalists in the Niger Delta, pointing out that with the dynamic situation of the journalism profession, it is important that journalists are trained and retrained so as to be able to fit properly into the modern demands that the profession requires of journalists.
He also commended journalists of the South-South for their zeal and dutiful engagements in reporting, disseminating and projecting matters affecting the South-South region to the outside world. “By your engagements you have given the South-South a voice and for which it cannot be ignored anymore in the scheme of things,” Dr. Osuoza said.
He thanked the NUJ Zone ‘F’ South-South for honouring him with the award and pledged his support for the capacity enhancement programme.
