PERSPECTIVE – Okowa for Senate 2027, an absurd political gimmick

By Frank Iroroh.

The only message Okowa delivered when he came to my community for a political rally, was that *he will be going back to the Senate in 2027*. Of course the heroine of my community, descended on him, *na only you dey* they shouted him down.
Okowa’s 12 years in charge of the politics in Delta North was a total disaster, catastrophic.

Indeed what can Anioma people point their fingers to and proudly say *Yes Okowa did this for us in his 12 years of political leadership in the senatorial district*?
In case you do not have the records of his failures, do not bother, I will present them to you right away.
But before then, I have a question for us, Did Anioma people escort Okowa Come to this world? Why him and him alone?* Have we not done enough for him?

Let us look at Okowa’s records in office as the governor of Delta State. Let us not forget that when Okowa was the governor of Delta State, Godwin Emefiele, was governor of Central Bank of Nigeria. Both were from Ika Federal Constituency, from Anioma. They both controlled multi-trilions annual budgets.
What did they do to improve our lives?

*See what Okowa did to improve our lives*

1. *OWANTA AGRO PROCESSING FACTORY

This Agro processing factory was built by the Shagari administration in the early 80s, then it was processing cassava and corn flour before the military coup of 1983 that overthrew the Shagari administration , and the factory stopped production. The project was sited in Owanta Idumuetor, one of the communities that make up the Owa clan, Okowa’s clan. When Okowa came in, he immediately dispatched his Chief economic adviser, Dr Kingsley Emu who hails from the community, to inspect the factory, where he later announced that he was going to put the factory back to production. Today the factory is worse than when Okowa met it, covered with giant Iroko trees.

2. The Umunede Trailers’ Park

With media fan fare, Okowa announced that he was going to build a trailer park at Ummunede, the first project he initiated in Delta North as a governor. The aim was to have a place where all the trailers that littered along that section of Benin Asaba road,, could have a parking space. The park was proposed to house a bank, guest houses, amusement park, lounges, a police outpost, grocery stores and so on. A laudable initiative you may say, but I passed through the proposed site yesterday and I did not see any sign of *The Ummunede Trailers PArk*

3. *Kwale Industrial Park*

Along the line Okowa announced that he was going to build an industrial park at Kwale, Ndokwa west LGA, having trashed the edjeba Industrial and business park initiated by Uduaghan, his predessesor. Okowa then gathered all his commissioners and Senior Special Advisers, put them in a charted jumbo jet and flew off to China, where they spent two weeks lavishing Delta State resources in the name of seeking partnership for the Kwale Industrial park. Today not a single block is laid on the site of the Kwale Industrial park

4. *Okpai Power Stepdown* For the twelve years Okowa reigned as the ekuwueme of Delta North politics, he completely ignored the Okapi electricity Stepdown project, he looked the other way and pretended the stepdown does not exist

5. *The Ogwashi -Uku Earth Dam*

Okowa did not know that the Ogwashi -Uku Dam existed, throughout his 12 years of stranglehold on Delta North politics. The perennial water shortage at Ogwashi Ukwu and environs is none of his business.

6. *Asaba International Airport*

The airport was conceived by ex- governor Udughan as an international cargo airport to exploit the Onitsha and south east importation businesses and to promote warehousing development in Asaba. But as soon as Okowa came in, he sold the airportt to his cronies and killed the Uduaghan’s *dreamed Asaba international cargo airport*.

7. In just two years all the roads constructed by the *Roadmaster* are washed away.

8. At present Gov. Oborevwori is clearing the rubbish job he did along Nnebesi road, the governor sheriff is removing the dirty, stunted and miserable trees Okowa planted in the middle of the only major road in Asaba, that gave the road out as a village farm road.

Imagine if he had mustered the will to execute the aforementioned projects, thousands of our youths would have been gainfully employed, the chains of businesses that would have spring up in Delta North would have transformed Anioma into a bursting business hub in Nigeria.

He could not liaise with Emefiele, his brother to get Owanta Agro Factory back to production. Under him Ika and Aniomaland wasted a golden opportunity to industrialized.

Those who want to defend his abysmal performance in office will excuse him for lack of funds to execute these projects, far from the truth, Okowa could have executed all the projects within the eight years he stayed in Dennis Osadebey House, Asaba, if he had adopted the PPP Initiative, build and operate program.

Now this man is going round telling his ignorant villagers that he wants to go back to the Senate in 2027. To do what exactly?

We know his motivation and why he is so desperate to go back to the Senate? *He wants to go there to kill the Anioma State creation bill, Sen. Ned Nwoko initiated. He does not want Anioma state created.
Remember that in 2024, he ordered one of his boys, Rt Hon Victor Nwokolo to disrupt a meeting of Ika North East traditional rulers at Owa Oyibu. The meeting was convened by Sen Ned Nwoko to brief the Royal Fathers in the LGA, the progress he had made to actualize the Anioma state, and to give them details about the bill he sponsored at the Senate for the creation of the Anioma State, Okowa sent his thugs to stop the meeting and presently he has been using clandestine means  to stop the Anioma State project.

Okowa 4 Senate 2027 is a huge joke. Anioma people are not morons to allow such affliction to happen to Aniomaland a second time.
