As Delta State marks 34 years of its creation, I extend heartfelt congratulations to His Excellency, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, the Government of Delta State, and all Deltans at home and in the diaspora, for this milestone achieved in the face of daunting challenges.
It is imperative at this critical juncture in our state’s journey that we reaffirm our collective commitment to peace, unity, and mutual respect. These values remain the foundation for sustainable development and are essential for the full realization of the MORE Agenda, which aligns with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
Governor Oborevwori has demonstrated focused and deliberate leadership in implementing his social contract with the people. The progress recorded under the MORE Agenda is evident in the infrastructural, environmental, and socio-economic interventions across the state. However, these gains can only be sustained in an atmosphere of peace and security.
We must move beyond political and ethnic divisions. It is time to set aside bitterness, entitlement, and the outdated mentality of “sharing the national cake. In its place, we must embrace the spirit of Ubuntu, a collective vision of “one for all, and all for one.” Only then can we build a Delta that thrives for generations to come.
It is particularly disheartening to witness recent tensions in Warri—a city currently benefitting from massive reconstruction efforts by the state government. These actions threaten to undermine the Governor’s commendable efforts to restore Warri’s position as a leading industrial and commercial hub.
I appeal to the Ijaw, Urhobo, Itsekiri, and all other ethnic groups in Warri and beyond to embrace peaceful co-existence and work together to unlock the enormous human and natural potential of the city and our state at large.
In the spirit of gratitude and rededication, I will be convening a Praise and Prayer Fellowship on August 30, 2025, in Asaba, to thank God for His grace upon Delta State and to intercede for continued wisdom, protection, and success for our Governor. We must pray without ceasing so that the evil plans of enemies of progress will never prevail.
Delta State is ours to build. Peace is the price for progress. Let us stand together, now more than ever.
God bless Delta State. God bless the Governor. God bless Nigeria.
