Oborevwori calls for unity as Nigeria marks 65th Independence anniversary

Governor Sheriff Oborevwori of Delta State has urged Nigerians to embrace unity, justice, and fairness as the foundation for rebuilding the nation.

Speaking at an inter-denominational thanksgiving service at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, West-End, Asaba, to mark Nigeria’s 65th Independence Anniversary, Oborevwori thanked God for sustaining the country since independence.

“Nigeria’s survival through numerous challenges is proof of divine grace. Every citizen must contribute to the Nigeria of our dreams,” he said, emphasizing that the country’s future rests on the youth and the sacrifices of its people.

The governor commended the Church’s role in promoting peace and urged leaders and citizens to prioritize the nation’s welfare over personal interest. Highlighting his administration’s achievements in infrastructure and social programmes, Oborevwori assured that more development and empowerment initiatives are on the way.

Catholic Bishop of Issele-Uku Diocese, Most Rev. Michael Elue, in his homily, urged Nigerians to embrace righteousness, love, and generosity, reminding the wealthy to care for the less privileged.

The service was attended by top government officials, political leaders, and dignitaries, including wife of the Deputy Governor of Delta State, Mrs. Catherine Onyeme, Speaker Emomotimi Guwor, members of the House of Representatives, Chief Judge of Delta State, Justice Tessy Diai, and APC chieftain Olorogun O’tega Emerhor among others.
