Delta LG Pensions Bureau hails Oborevwori for strengthening pension system, reaffirms Commitment to transparency, efficiency

The Delta State Bureau of Local Government Pensions has applauded Governor Sheriff Oborevwori for his proactive leadership and unwavering support in ensuring the regular payment of pensions and gratuities. The Bureau described the governor’s efforts as a clear demonstration of his administration’s commitment to workers’ welfare and retirees’ dignity.

Highlighting significant progress in the management of the Contributory Pension Scheme (CPS), the Bureau disclosed that, as of April 2025, all local government employees who retired on or before September 2024 have been fully paid their entitlements. Processing of benefits for those who retired from October 2024 is now underway.

The Secretary of the Bureau, Mr. Onyemeni Frank Atube, made this known while representing the Chairman, Mr. Benjamin Igo, at the flag-off of a stakeholders’ sensitization and enlightenment programme held in Koko, headquarters of Warri North Local Government Area.

Atube reaffirmed the Bureau’s commitment to transparency, accountability, and continuous improvement in the administration of the CPS. He explained that the sensitization campaign was aimed at bridging communication gaps and enhancing stakeholders’ understanding of pension processes, particularly among council officials, education authorities, and pension desk officers.

He further assured that the awareness programme would be extended to all 25 local government areas of the state to ensure that stakeholders are well-informed and better equipped to manage pension matters effectively.

As part of the event, the Bureau presented copies of its official handbook on the administration and management of the Local Government Contributory Pension Scheme to the Vice Chairman of Warri North LGA, Hon. Mrs. Florence Bisina, who represented the Council Chairman, Hon. Festus Ani Ashima.

Hon. Bisina commended the Bureau for its operational efficiency and for ensuring that pension and gratuity payments remain up to date. She described the exercise as a testament to the state government’s commitment to the welfare of local government workers and retirees.

She also pledged the council’s full support for the successful implementation of the CPS, adding that the sensitization session had brought greater clarity and confidence to council staff.

The event featured presentations by Pension Fund Administrators (PFAs) and insurance companies, who outlined their roles in managing pension assets and providing annuity services to retirees.

The Bureau reiterated that the ongoing sensitization drive is designed to deepen public awareness, promote accountability, and strengthen confidence in the Contributory Pension Scheme for local government employees across Delta State.
