Delta First Lady commissions Tobore Oborevwori Cottage Hospital, says it’s ‘ beacon of hope, healing’

The First Lady of Delta State, Deaconess Tobore Oborevwori, on Tuesday commissioned the newly completed Tobore Oborevwori Cottage Hospital in Ughelli North Local Government Area, hailing the facility as a “beacon of hope, healing, and humanity” for the community.

The event, held on December 2, 2025, marked a significant stride in the council’s drive to expand access to quality healthcare. Chairman of the council, Olorogun Jaro Egbo, said the hospital is part of a broader strategy to make affordable and reliable medical services available to residents of Ughelli North.

In an emotionally resonant address, the Mrs Oborevwori expressed gratitude to the council for naming the hospital after her, noting that the gesture reflects the value placed on her contributions to the wellbeing of Deltans.

“It gladdens my heart to know that my modest contributions are being recognized and valued. It feels good to be home, home sweet home,” she said.

She applauded the council leadership for “breaking barriers and creating access to affordable, quality healthcare for our people,” adding that the project aligns with Governor Sheriff Oborevwori’s commitment to human-centered development.

Deaconess Oborevwori also celebrated recent milestones in the state’s health sector under the governor’s watch, including the reduction of dialysis fees from ₦75,000 to ₦40,000, the deployment of new dialysis and CT scan machines to government-owned hospitals, and the ongoing rehabilitation of 150 primary healthcare centres across all 25 local government areas.

“God will help the governor to achieve more. He is working, and it is showing,” she affirmed.

She further highlighted the humanitarian work of her You Mata Charity Foundation, which recently executed a free medical outreach for children with special needs in Ughelli. The outreach provided medications, wheelchairs, and assistive devices. She recounted how a woman who had just delivered triplets received over ₦8.1 million through spontaneous donations, calling the act “a testimony of God’s grace.”

Mrs Oborevwori assured that similar outreaches would be extended to Delta North and Delta South.

In his remarks, Hon. Jaro Egbo said the cottage hospital was conceived as a key component of his administration’s plan to strengthen local healthcare delivery.

“Healthcare is not a privilege for a few, but a right for all,” he noted.

He expressed appreciation to Governor Oborevwori for creating an enabling environment that made the project possible, saying the administration’s Renewed Hope for MORE Agenda has inspired a wave of developmental efforts across the council.

Egbo also thanked the First Lady for honouring the council with her presence, describing her as an embodiment of compassion whose impact continues to resonate across Ughelli North. He urged residents to safeguard the facility against vandalism, stressing that its sustainability depends on community support.

Chairman of the occasion and head of the Ughelli North Local Government Advisory Committee, Chief Miller Uloho, praised Governor Oborevwori for his “exceptional leadership,” recalling his role in resolving long-standing land disputes in Osubi that once jeopardized the airport project.

He described the governor as “a naturally gifted leader” whose competence earned him a place on the maiden flight that inaugurated the Osubi Airport.

Uloho also commended Chairman Egbo’s performance and encouraged him to sustain the tempo of development. He appealed to the First Lady to ensure the newly commissioned hospital remains functional, adequately funded, and well-maintained.

Executive Secretary of the Ughelli North Primary Healthcare Development Agency, Dr. Tega Ighovo, announced that the facility is fully equipped with modern medical equipment, including an ambulance and diagnostic tools, enabling it to serve as a referral hub for primary healthcare centres across the LGA.
