Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, on Tuesday flagged off the construction of the Cubana Millennium City in Asaba, describing the project as a strong testament to the state’s rising profile as a prime investment destination.
Represented by his Deputy, Sir Monday Onyeme, FCA, the Governor said the development signals growing investor confidence in Delta’s economy, its people, and its overall stability.
He noted that the ambitious project, strategically sited off the Benin–Onitsha Highway at the Wichtech Junction will unlock significant value along the corridor and evolve into “a thriving hub of commerce, hospitality, entertainment, and modern living.”
“Today’s groundbreaking is more than the start of a physical project; it is a clear confirmation that Delta State is emerging as one of Nigeria’s most promising investment destinations,” Oborevwori said. “The Cubana Millennium City represents confidence in our economy, in our people, and in the opportunities Delta State offers investors.”
The Governor added that the economic impact of the development would extend statewide through job creation, strengthened local supply chains, and expanded opportunities for small and medium enterprises.
He reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to making Delta State “the easiest place to invest, to build, and to grow,” stressing ongoing improvements in infrastructure, security, and investor support.
Oborevwori commended Dr. Obinna Iyiegbu, the Cubana Group, and their partners for choosing Delta State for what he described as a transformative venture. He also appreciated traditional rulers and community leaders for fostering a stable environment attractive to investors, and encouraged young people to prepare themselves for the opportunities the project will generate.
“As we break ground, we lay the foundation for more investment, more growth, and greater prosperity. The message from Asaba today is clear: Delta State is open for business, ready for partnerships, and committed to rewarding every investor who believes in our future,” he stated.
The Chairmen of Oshimili North and Aniocha North Local Government Areas, Hon. Innocent Esewezie and Hon. Emma Chinye, praised the Cubana Millennium City initiative, describing it as a bold stride toward infrastructural and socioeconomic advancement for their councils and the state at large.
In his goodwill message, the Ugoani of Okpanam, His Royal Majesty Dr. Michael Ogbolu, pledged the community’s support and protection for the project, emphasizing its long-term benefits.
Earlier, Chairman of the Cubana Group, Dr. Obinna Iyiegbu, said the vision of the project is to create a modern ecosystem where residents can “live, work, relax, and thrive” without leaving the community.
“We are standing on a piece of land that is about to transform into a world-class community a modern city within a city that will redefine lifestyle, entertainment, hospitality, and investment opportunities, connecting the South and the East,” he said.
He thanked Governor Oborevwori for his unwavering support, noting that the administration’s MORE Agenda continues to inspire large-scale private investments.
“When government creates an enabling environment, private investors gain the confidence to dream bigger and act boldly. Cubana Millennium City is one of the boldest expressions of that confidence,” Iyiegbu added.
According to him, the project represents “vision, commitment, and possibilities,” and embodies the belief that Nigerian cities deserve world-class developments featuring safe communities, smart homes, integrated commercial zones, green areas, entertainment clusters, and youth-driven opportunities.
