AGBOR, Delta State – Former Delta State Governor, Senator Ifeanyi Okowa, stated on Monday that President Bola Tinubu is deliberately steering Nigeria toward a sustainable economic future, despite the initial challenges of ongoing reforms.
Okowa made the remarks in Agbor during the groundbreaking ceremony for the N59 billion Uromi Junction Flyover, a project performed by the current Delta State Governor, Sheriff Oborevwori.
Speaking at the event, Okowa urged Nigerians to objectively assess the President’s efforts. “People may choose not to acknowledge it, but the truth is that Mr. President is engineering the Nigerian economy in the right direction,” he said.
Citing improvements in regular salary payments for states and local governments, as well as the clearance of pension arrears, Okowa attributed these gains to federal policies. “Politics aside, Mr. President is leading Nigeria towards a more sustainable future. There may be some pain at the beginning, but in a few years, the results will be evident,” he added.
The former governor also commended Governor Oborevwori for aligning the state with the federal government, calling the decision strategic and beneficial.
Turning to state affairs, Okowa praised Oborevwori’s administration for its scale of infrastructure development, which he cited as evidence of purposeful governance. He specifically highlighted the flyover project and other major initiatives in Delta North, such as the Ugbolu-Okpanam Road and the Aboh-Akara concrete road.
“What is happening in Delta State gives me peace, and that peace is because Governor Sheriff Oborevwori is a good man who has continued to do the right thing,” Okowa said, reflecting on their personal relationship and the continuity of governance.
He concluded by expressing optimism for Delta State and Nigeria.
