Anioma Professionals urge INEC to allow year-round voter registration

The Association of Anioma Professionals has called on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to adopt a more flexible, year-round voter registration system to enable Nigerians register outside the usual electoral cycle.

The non-political group, made up of professionals from Delta North Senatorial District working across public and private sectors, made the call in a statement encouraging eligible citizens to take advantage of the ongoing Permanent Voter Card (PVC) registration exercise.

In the statement signed by its National President, Mr. Peter Nkenchor, a retired Permanent Secretary, the association argued that voter registration should not be limited to a few weeks before elections.

“If the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) can register Nigerians all year round and the Bank Verification Number (BVN) can be issued routinely, then INEC can also conduct continuous voter registration without strict timeframes,” the group stated.

The association urged people of Anioma extraction to empower themselves politically by registering to vote, stressing that credible leadership begins with active civic participation.

“The path to ensuring Anioma and Delta State are led by credible people begins with our people registering to vote,” the statement said, calling on presidents-general of town unions, royal fathers, as well as women and youth groups to mobilise voters across the zone.

Describing the ongoing registration as an opportunity that must not be missed, the group said voting remains the only effective way for citizens to influence governance and leadership.

Nkenchor reaffirmed the association’s commitment to the development of Anioma nation and Delta State, adding that it would continue to work with town union and traditional leaders to help the zone maximise its voting strength.
