Oborevwori tasks new DELSU Governing Council members on integrity, accountability

Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, has charged newly inaugurated members of the Governing Council of Delta State University (DELSU), Abraka, to serve with integrity, diligence and unwavering commitment, stressing that sound governance is critical to sustaining the university’s academic excellence.

The governor gave the charge during the inauguration of Rt. Hon. Festus Agas, Rt. Hon. Frank Enekorogha and Mr. Charles Ajuyah, SAN, as members of the university’s Governing Council.

Despite his tight schedule, Oborevwori said he considered the inauguration significant, noting that governing councils occupy a strategic position in the administration of universities through policy formulation and oversight.

He described the appointments as timely, coming at a period when DELSU is consolidating its status as a leading centre of higher learning in Nigeria and beyond.

“The Governing Council remains central to the effective governance of any university, providing policy direction and ensuring that institutional goals are achieved,” the governor said, adding that his administration has consistently appointed individuals of proven integrity, experience and distinction into governing councils of tertiary institutions in the state.

Oborevwori said the three appointees have distinguished themselves in public service and leadership, making them well qualified for the responsibility entrusted to them.

“As members of the Governing Council, you carry the aspirations of thousands of students, staff, alumni and the entire people of Delta State. Your decisions will shape policies, influence academic direction and define the future of this great university for generations to come,” he said.

He urged them to serve with transparency and dedication, stressing that their actions and decisions would have far-reaching implications for the institution and its stakeholders.

The governor expressed confidence that their wealth of experience would further strengthen DELSU’s capacity to produce graduates who are academically sound, morally upright and socially responsible.

Responding on behalf of the inaugurated members, Rt. Hon. Festus Agas thanked God and the Delta State Government for the opportunity to serve, describing the appointment as both an honour and a call to duty.

He assured the governor that the council members would work in harmony with the Vice-Chancellor and the university management to add value to the administration of the institution and advance its mandate.

Agas also commended Governor Oborevwori’s leadership, particularly the cordial relationship among the arms of government in the state, which he said had driven notable achievements within two and a half years.

He highlighted progress in peace and security, infrastructure development, human capital development and healthcare, citing major road projects, youth empowerment initiatives and the strengthening of the contributory health insurance scheme.

“We thank the Governor for the confidence reposed in us. We will serve with dedication, loyalty and integrity,” Agas said, while praying for continued wisdom and strength for the governor to lead Delta State to greater heights.
