Delta State Governor, Sheriff Oborevwori , has expressed deep sorrow over the death of former Deputy Governor of the state, Chief Benjamin Elue, who passed away at the age of 85.
The Governor described the late elder statesman as a loyal patriot, seasoned administrator and committed party man whose contributions to the growth, unity and stability of Delta State would remain indelible in the state’s history.
Chief Elue served as Deputy Governor between 1999 and 2007 under the administration of former Governor James Ibori, a period during which he was widely known for his humility, dedication to duty and unwavering loyalty to the government he served.

The Governor noted that the late former Deputy Governor was not only a distinguished politician but also a renowned educationist who devoted much of his life to teaching and mentoring younger generations.
According to Oborevwori, Elue’s calm disposition, depth of wisdom and firm commitment to unity played a critical role in strengthening democratic governance in Delta State, particularly during the formative years of the Fourth Republic.
He further recalled Elue’s steadfast commitment to peace and cohesion across the state, describing his contributions to Delta’s development as both far-reaching and enduring.
“Chief Benjamin Elue was a man of honour and integrity who served our dear state with passion and loyalty. His invaluable service to Delta and its people will remain evergreen,” the Governor said.
Governor Oborevwori added that the octogenarian’s exemplary life and outstanding accomplishments, especially his years as Deputy Governor, earned him widespread respect across political divides.
He extended heartfelt condolences to the Elue family, the people of Aniocha North, Delta North Senatorial District, and the entire Delta State, praying that Almighty God grants the departed elder statesman eternal rest and gives his family and loved ones the fortitude to bear the irreparable loss.
