ABUJA, Nigeria – Delta State Governor, Sheriff Oborevwori, has hailed the outcome of the All Progressives Congress (APC) National Elective Convention as a powerful testament to the party’s expanding influence and deepening connection with Nigerians.
Speaking to journalists at Eagle Square, Abuja, on Friday night, Governor Oborevwori framed the convention’s success as validation of his political realignment, asserting that his defection to the APC in April 2025 is already delivering tangible benefits for Delta State.
The governor explained that his decision to join the ruling party was motivated by the need to align Delta with the federal government—a strategic move he said has unlocked greater access to resources and bolstered governance outcomes.
“I’m happy to be here today. That bold decision we took on April 28, 2025, is manifesting today,” Oborevwori said. “I was the first Governor after the 2023 election to move into APC. That was done because we wanted to connect with the centre, and we have connected to the centre. Other state Governors have also emulated me in the decision we took.”
According to the governor, the subsequent increase in revenue allocation to states has strengthened their capacity to meet key obligations, including the regular payment of salaries and the execution of critical projects.

“We are happy with that decision we took because the policies and programmes of Mr President are working,” he stated. “But you know, it takes time. We know the sufferings of Nigerians; the policies are yielding; it’s a gradual process.”
Oborevwori contrasted the current financial situation with previous years, noting, “Before now, the money that was coming to states was not much; paying salaries was difficult. These days, we can pay salaries, we can pay our contractors. A lot of things are working for us.”
He argued that the growing number of APC governors is a clear indicator of the administration’s performance. “I will tell you, if Mr President is not doing well, my other brother Governors will not come and join. As we speak today, we are 31 Governors in APC. No political party has gotten 31 Governors since 1999. This is the first time.”
Pointing to the large turnout at the convention, the governor added, “The crowd you are seeing here today shows that Mr President is focused, he is bold, and he is taking us somewhere. We believe that Nigerians will pay back by reelecting him in 2027.”

Turning to his administration’s record, Oborevwori reaffirmed his commitment to delivering democratic dividends across Delta State, particularly in infrastructure, health, education, and security, sectors where he said notable progress has been made.
He also highlighted significant gains in oil production, noting the absence of attacks on facilities in the state. “Delta State remains number one in oil production, and we are going to do more for our people,” he added.
The governor called on Deltans and residents to continue supporting both President Bola Tinubu’s administration and his own, assuring them that all levels of government remain committed to improving the welfare of citizens.
