
The All Progresses Congress (APC) on Friday night, March 27, 2026, elected Nentawe Yilwatda as the new National Chairman of the ruling party, alongside a full complement of National Working Committee (NWC) members.
Yilwatda will be supported by two Deputy National Chairmen—Ali Bukar Dakota, representing the North, and Benjamin Obi Nwoye, representing the South.
At the convention, Surajudeen Ajibola Basiru, a former Senate spokesperson, emerged as the party’s National Secretary, with AbdulKarim Abubakar Kana elected as his deputy.
Other key officials elected include Murtala Aliyu Kankia as National Legal Adviser, Uguru Mathew Ofoke as National Treasurer, and Haruna Ginsau as National Financial Secretary.
The convention also produced Muhammad Sulaiman Argungu as National Organising Secretary and Donatus Enyinnah Nwankpa as National Welfare Secretary.
Felix Morka retained his position as National Publicity Secretary, while Abubakar Maikafi was elected National Auditor.
In other positions, Mary A. Idele emerged as National Women Leader, and Dayo Isreal was elected National Youth Leader. The position of National Leader for Persons with Disabilities went to Durotolu Oyebode Bankole.
Several deputy national officers also emerged, including Hammam Adamu Ali Kumo, Emeka Okafor, and Zainab Abubakar Ibrahim.
Others are Meseko Durosinmi Josiah, Christopher Michael Akpan, Olugbenga Olayemi, Ibrahim Salawu, Ben Akak, and Jamaludeen Kabiru.
The convention further produced National Ex-officio members representing the six geopolitical zones: Opawoye Oluwatoyin Bunmi (North Central), Adamu Jallah (North East), Kano Muhammed Jamu Yusuf (North West), Ikechukwu Umeh (South East), Francis Kolokolo (South South), and Bunmi Orinowo (South West).
The emergence of the new leadership marks a significant reorganisation within the ruling party as it positions itself for upcoming political engagements and internal consolidation.
