Royal nod for Advocate Lecture as monarch hails event’s growing stature

The Ovie of Ughelli Kingdom, HRM Wilson Ojakovo, Oharisi III, has thrown his royal weight behind the third edition of the Advocate Annual Lecture Series, confirming his attendance and offering prayers for the event’s success.

The monarch gave his blessing when a delegation from Advocate Publication Ltd, led by Managing Director and Publisher, Mr. Shedrack Onitsha, paid him a courtesy visit to formally present the programme’s details and extend an official invitation.

Oharisi III praised the initiative, calling it a timely platform for intellectual engagement on critical national issues. He expressed hope that the lecture series would grow into an international event.

Organised by Advocate Publication Ltd, publishers of Advocate Newspaper, the lecture is scheduled for Thursday, April 16, 2026, at Wetland Hotel, Ughelli, Delta State.

This year’s theme, “From Ballot to Patronage: Why Electoral Victory Fails to Deliver Good Governance in Nigeria,” will explore the gap between electoral success and effective governance, tackling issues such as patronage politics, weak institutional oversight, and the need for accountability reforms.

Renowned international conference speaker and governance advocate, Charles Apoki, will deliver the keynote address, while respected scholar and community leader, Prof. Patrick Muoboghare, will chair the event.

Delta State Governor, Sheriff Oborevwori, is expected as Special Guest of Honour, alongside Senator Ede Dafinone and businessman and political leader, Olorogun O’tega Emerhor, who will serve as Guests of Honour.

Panelists include Barrister Omemiroro Ogedegbe, CSP Omosetemi Agbede-Zuokumor, and Chief Monday Ogheneruona Itoghor, with veteran journalist Olorogun Abraham Ogbodo as moderator.

Organisers said the annual lecture continues to offer a credible platform for robust dialogue on governance and national development, bringing together policymakers, professionals, and thought leaders to address Nigeria’s pressing challenges.

The monarch’s endorsement is seen as a major boost, with preparations now in top gear for what promises to be a high-profile gathering of stakeholders across Delta State and beyond.
