Hundreds of defiant protesters sang Nigeria’s old national anthem, “Arise O Compatriots,” as they picketed the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Abuja on Wednesday, April 8, 2026.
The protest, organized by the African Democratic Congress (ADC), was triggered by what the party called the “illegal delisting” of its executives by the electoral body.
Leading the demonstration were delisted National Chairman David Mark, National Secretary Rauf Aregbesola, former Labour Party Presidential Candidate Peter Obi, and former Vice President Atiku Abubakar.
Other prominent figures at the scene included Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, Rotimi Amaechi, Aminu Tambuwal, and Dino Melaye.
The crowd’s presence outside INEC headquarters marked the launch of ADC’s nationwide protests, with the party accusing the commission of conspiring with the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) to turn Nigeria into a one-party state.
