May Day: Workers, driving force behind govt’s progress, says Oborevwori

ASABA – Delta State Governor, Sheriff Oborevwori, has extended his congratulations to workers across the state and Nigeria on the occasion of the 2026 Workers’ Day, praising them as the engine room of governmental advancement.

In a statement released on Friday, May 1, 2026 by his Chief Press Secretary, Sir Festus Ahon, the Governor noted that May Day serves not only as a moment of celebration but also as an opportunity for reflection and a renewed pledge to build a society where workers are valued and fairly compensated.

Governor Oborevwori lauded the invaluable contributions of public and private sector workers, including civil servants, teachers, healthcare personnel, artisans, farmers, and entrepreneurs, acknowledging their role in the state’s growth and development.

“I join Deltans and Nigerians across the country in celebrating our diligent and resilient workforce. You remain the backbone of our development, and I salute your commitment and sacrifices,” the Governor stated.

He highlighted key achievements under his administration’s M.O.R.E. Agenda, such as the prompt payment of salaries and pensions, clearance of pension arrears, ongoing recruitment in the health sector, and capacity-building programs designed to boost workers’ productivity.

Oborevwori also pointed to improvements in working environments, citing upgrades to public facilities, revitalization of healthcare centers, and school renovations aimed at creating more conducive conditions for service delivery.

He noted that entrepreneurship programs introduced by the government have supported artisans and small-scale business owners, while sustained investments in infrastructure, including roads, bridges, and markets, are helping to ease transportation challenges and stimulate economic activities.

The Governor added that his administration is strengthening agricultural initiatives to enhance food production, ensure food security, and stabilize prices across the state.

“This initiative guarantees that your voices are heard and that public resources are managed in the interest of all. It reflects our commitment to fairness, integrity, and accountable governance,” he said.

Oborevwori urged workers to remain dedicated, uphold excellence in their duties, and continue working in unity for the collective progress of Delta State.

“Together, we will build a stronger, more prosperous future for our state,” he added.
