On Saturday, Delta State Governor, Sheriff Oborevwori, paid a heartfelt tribute to Pa Emmanuel Ogbechie as the family patriarch marked his 100th birthday in Idumuju-Ugboko, Aniocha North Local Government Area.
The centenary celebration, held at St. Matthew’s Anglican Church, drew dignitaries from all walks of life. The celebrant is the father of RainOil Group Managing Director, Engr. Gabriel Ogbechie.
Governor Oborevwori described Pa Ogbechie as a fulfilled man whose disciplined life, faith, and dedication to family serve as a shining example for younger generations. He noted that reaching 100 is a rare privilege, made possible by God, hard work, strong faith, and a life well lived.
According to the Governor, the centenarian’s greatest achievement is not merely his longevity, but the quality of children he raised and the values he instilled in them. He commended Pa Ogbechie for sacrificing greatly to ensure his children received sound education and moral upbringing, adding that the family’s success and unity today are rewards for years of labor and commitment.
Governor Oborevwori specifically praised Engr. Gabriel Ogbechie and his siblings for remaining connected to their roots despite their business success, noting their continued contributions to community and church development as evidence of genuine love for their people.
Speaking emotionally about the bond between the celebrant and his children, the Governor said, “When people say one is enjoying the fruits of labor, this is exactly what it means. Papa is enjoying the reward of raising his children well.” He prayed for continued unity and peace in the Ogbechie family and Aniocha North, thanking God for the celebrant’s good health and strength at 100.
Governor Oborevwori also appreciated the Ogbechie family’s ongoing support and assured them of his commitment to Delta State’s development.
On behalf of the family, Engr. Gabriel Ogbechie expressed deep gratitude to his father, describing him as a disciplined, selfless man who devoted his life to ensuring his children received quality education despite limited resources.
In his sermon, Venerable Christian Okonkwo congratulated Pa Emmanuel Ogbechie, commending him and his family for unwavering support to the church. He called the celebration a testimony of God’s faithfulness, noting that the oldest man in his quarter remains a symbol of wisdom, history, and inspiration. The cleric urged the congregation to remain thankful, live righteously, fear God, honor parents, embrace peace, love, forgiveness, and steadfast faith to enjoy long life.
