The family of former Minister of Power and leading All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship aspirant in Oyo State, Chief Adebayo Adelabu, has confirmed the abduction of his younger sister, Mrs. Olaide Busayo Adegoke John-Paul, and her twin sons by armed gunmen in Ibadan.
According to a statement issued on Wednesday by Adelabu’s Media Aide, Comrade Femi Awogboro, the victims were kidnapped in the early hours of June 3, 2026, while Mrs. John-Paul was taking her children to school.
The family disclosed that the 43-year-old was reportedly attacked and abducted at about 7:30 a.m. by heavily armed assailants who also forcefully took away her 12-year-old twin sons, Peter and Paul.
Mrs. John-Paul is the youngest of the five children of Mrs. Olufunmilayo Aduke Adegoke Adelabu. Before her voluntary retirement last year, she served at the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) and later at First Bank Pension Custodian. She had recently relocated to Ibadan with her children while preparing to join her husband, Mr. John Paul, who had earlier moved to the United States.
The family said all relevant security and law enforcement agencies were immediately notified after the incident and that security operatives had already commenced investigations aimed at rescuing the victims and bringing the perpetrators to justice.
“We are pleased to confirm that security operatives have swung into action and preliminary investigations have commenced in earnest. Efforts are currently ongoing to ensure the safe rescue of the victims and the apprehension of those responsible for this heinous crime,” the statement said.
Chief Adelabu and other family members were described as deeply shaken by the development but expressed confidence in the ability of security agencies to secure the safe release of Mrs. John-Paul and her children.
The family appealed to the public to remain calm and avoid spreading unverified information that could undermine ongoing rescue efforts.
They also called on Nigerians to offer prayers and support during the difficult period while urging anyone with useful information that could aid investigators to promptly report such details through the appropriate security channels.
The family pledged its full cooperation with security authorities and assured the public that updates would be provided as the situation develops.
