Tompolo calls for calm, peaceful resolution as women, youths occupy oil installations in Escravos, Warri

WARRI, Nigeria – High Chief Government Oweizide Ekpemupolo, widely known as Tompolo, has appealed for calm and a peaceful resolution to the ongoing occupation of oil and gas installations in the Escravos and Warri river areas by peaceful women and youths.

In a press statement released today, the Ibe-Ebidouwei of Ijaw Nation and Chairman of Tantita Security Services Nigeria Limited acknowledged that the mass action, which began on June 8, 2026, has drawn the attention of well-meaning Nigerians calling for dialogue.

“I join all well meaning Nigerians to call for a peaceful resolution,” Tompolo said, emphasizing that the Ijaw nation has historically been known for its peaceful ways and must not deviate from that heritage.

The occupation stems from the failure of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to complete the delineation of wards in the Warri Federal Constituency. Tompolo warned that the current political situation must not be allowed to be hijacked or degenerate into any form of violence.

He announced an immediate meeting of community leaders to chart a way forward, while urging all parties to join hands in seeking a peaceful resolution.

“INEC must determine to do the right thing and restore the peace in Warri and environs,” Tompolo stated.

He called on the people of Warri, regardless of whether they are Ijaw, Itsekiri, or Urhobo, to remain calm and wait patiently for INEC to take the appropriate action.
