NIPR Delta Mobilises Members for AGM, Professional Training on Leadership, Accountability

The Delta State Chapter of the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR) has called on its members to actively participate in the Chapter’s 2026 Annual General Meeting (AGM), highlighting a high-impact training programme aimed at strengthening professional competence and enhancing the strategic relevance of public relations practice in Nigeria.

In a statement issued by the Chapter’s Public Relations Officer, Fred Latimore Oghenesivbe, members were reminded that the two-day event is scheduled to hold from June 24 to June 25, 2026, in Asaba, the Delta State capital.

Oghenesivbe disclosed that the opening day of the programme will feature a comprehensive training session built around the AGM theme, “Leadership, Accountability, and Sustainable Development in Nigeria: The Strategic Intersection of Public Relations for National Repositioning.”

According to him, the theme reflects the growing importance of public relations in shaping effective leadership, promoting transparency and accountability, building stakeholder confidence, and driving sustainable development across public and private sector institutions.

He described the training programme as a critical component of the AGM, noting that it is designed to equip practitioners with contemporary knowledge, practical skills, and strategic insights required to navigate today’s rapidly changing communication landscape.

“The training programme is a critical component of this year’s AGM because it is designed to equip practitioners with contemporary knowledge, practical skills, and strategic insights needed to navigate today’s rapidly evolving communication environment,” he said.

Oghenesivbe noted that public relations has become increasingly central to governance, corporate management, public engagement, reputation management, and policy communication, making continuous professional development essential for practitioners seeking to remain effective and relevant.

He added that participants would gain valuable insights into how strategic communication can be leveraged to support responsible leadership, strengthen institutional credibility, enhance public trust, and contribute to national development.

The Chapter PRO further stressed that public relations professionals have a vital role to play in addressing Nigeria’s socio-economic and governance challenges by facilitating dialogue, managing stakeholder expectations, combating misinformation, and promoting accountability through ethical practice.

He said the training would provide members with the tools and perspectives needed to position public relations as a catalyst for national repositioning, in line with the Institute’s commitment to professional excellence and high standards.

Activities for the second day of the event will include a lecture session and the Chapter’s Annual General Meeting, during which members will review the Chapter’s activities and deliberate on issues affecting the profession and the Institute.

Oghenesivbe urged all members to attend and participate fully, describing the AGM as a valuable platform for learning, networking, knowledge sharing, and collective reflection on the future of public relations practice in Nigeria.

He reaffirmed the Chapter’s commitment to advancing professionalism and positioning public relations as a strategic force for leadership, accountability, sustainable development, and national transformation.
