Delta Speaker attributes 8th Assembly’s three-Year Success to God’s grace, seeks Divine guidance for final year

Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Emomotimi Dennis Guwor, has attributed the successful completion of three years by the 8th Assembly to God’s faithfulness, mercy and unfailing love, saying divine grace has been instrumental in the legislature’s achievements since its inauguration in June 2023.

Guwor made the declaration on Sunday during a thanksgiving service held at the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), Region 34 Headquarters, Asaba, to commemorate the third anniversary of the 8th Delta State House of Assembly, which was inaugurated on June 13, 2023.

Speaking at the service, the Speaker quoted Psalm 124:1-2, stating that the Assembly’s accomplishments and stability over the past three years were possible only through God’s intervention.

“If it had not been the Lord who was on our side, we would not be celebrating this milestone today,” he said.

According to him, God has granted members of the Assembly wisdom, unity, good health and uncommon grace in carrying out their constitutional responsibilities, resulting in a peaceful and productive legislature.

Guwor noted that the House had enjoyed remarkable peace, stability and cooperation among members, which translated into purposeful lawmaking and effective oversight functions.

“Through God’s grace, the House has considered and passed several bills and resolutions aimed at promoting good governance, economic growth, social development and the welfare of our citizens,” he said.

The Speaker, who also serves as Chairman of the Conference of Speakers of State Legislatures of Nigeria, commended the cordial relationship among the three arms of government in Delta State, describing the synergy between the Legislature, Executive and Judiciary as a key factor in the state’s progress and stability.

He expressed appreciation to Governor Sheriff Oborevwori for his support and commitment to the development of the state, while also acknowledging the contributions of Deputy Governor Sir Monday Onyeme, members of the State Executive Council and the Chief Judge of Delta State in sustaining harmonious inter-governmental relations.

Guwor further praised members of the 8th Assembly for their dedication, maturity and collective resolve in advancing the legislative agenda and maintaining the confidence reposed in them by their constituents.

He also thanked Deltans for their continued trust and support, assuring them of the Assembly’s commitment to quality representation and responsive legislation.

The Speaker expressed gratitude to the officiating minister, Pastor John Oyomah of RCCG Region 34, for what he described as an inspiring and thought-provoking sermon that reminded lawmakers of their responsibilities as custodians of public trust.

Looking ahead to the final year of the Assembly’s tenure, Guwor said lawmakers would continue to seek God’s guidance in the discharge of their duties.

Quoting Proverbs 3:5-6, he reaffirmed the Assembly’s commitment to integrity, accountability, transparency and selfless service.

“As we offer thanksgiving unto God, may He continue to bless Delta State, grant wisdom to our leaders, preserve the peace and unity of our state, and prosper the works of our hands,” he prayed.

The thanksgiving service attracted prominent dignitaries, including Governor Sheriff Oborevwori and his wife, Tobore; wife of the Deputy Governor, Dame Catherine Onyeme; former Governor James Ibori; former Governor and immediate past Vice Presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa; immediate past Deputy Governor, Barr. Kingsley Otuaro; serving members of the National Assembly; state lawmakers; senior government officials; traditional rulers; party leaders; and constituents from across the 29 state constituencies.
