The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has scheduled a World Press Conference and National Stakeholders’ Meeting for Tuesday, October 6, 2026, as preparations gather pace for the 2027 General Election.
The event, marking 100 days to the first ballot, will bring together political party leaders, media organisations, security agencies, civil society groups, religious leaders, development partners, members of the diplomatic community and other stakeholders.
It will hold from 10am at the Bola Ahmed Tinubu International Conference Centre in Abuja and is strictly by invitation.
INEC Chairman, Prof. Joash Ojo Amupitan, SAN, is expected to address participants and engage Nigerians and key stakeholders on the commission’s preparations for the polls.
The commission announced the meeting in a post on its official X handle on Wednesday, saying it would provide an opportunity to discuss preparations and strengthen engagement with stakeholders.
“As preparations intensify for the 2027 General Election, INEC invites political parties, the media, security agencies, civil society organisations, religious leaders, development partners, the diplomatic community and other stakeholders to a World Press Conference and National Stakeholders Meeting marking the 100-day milestone to the first ballot,” the commission said.
Under INEC’s official timetable, the Presidential and National Assembly elections are scheduled for February 20, 2027, while the Governorship and State Houses of Assembly elections will follow on March 6, 2027.
The October 6 meeting is expected to give the electoral body a platform to outline its level of preparedness and engage stakeholders on issues relating to the conduct of the elections.
