The Delta State Police Command has taken the Commissioner for Secondary Education, Dr. Kingsley Ashibogwu, and three other suspects into custody as part of investigations into the death of a Deputy Director in the Ministry of Secondary Education, Mr Unity Ekpevbughe Adeda.
The development brings to five the number of persons currently in police custody in connection with the investigation.
In a statement issued on Sunday, September 28, 2026, the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe, said the Command had also intensified its search for two persons it described as “key suspects” whose presence was required to advance the investigation.
They are Mrs Clemetine Ufuoma, Director of Basic and Secondary Education, and Clement Apia, the driver to the Commissioner for Secondary Education.
The police urged the two persons to make themselves available to the Command without further delay.
The investigation follows the death of Adeda, whose death at his workplace had generated concerns among colleagues, organised labour and sections of the Delta State public service.
According to the police, the Commissioner of Police, Delta State Command, CP Samuel E. Erale, assured the deceased’s family and members of the public that the investigation would be conducted thoroughly, impartially and professionally.
The Command said due process would be followed and that anyone found culpable would be brought to justice in accordance with the law.
“The Command’s heartfelt condolences go to the deceased family,” Edafe stated.
The police did not disclose the identities of the three other persons taken into custody alongside the commissioner or specify the allegations against any of those being investigated.
The Command’s latest action represents a significant escalation of the investigation into the circumstances surrounding Adeda’s death.
