… Godwin Ossai cautions against relying on social media popularity, urges grassroots mobilisation

The governorship candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) in Delta State, Deacon Chris Iyovwaye, and his running mate, Chief Godwin Ossai, have pledged to prioritise industrialisation, youth employment and prudent management of public resources as part of their proposed Reset Delta Agenda ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The pledge was reiterated by Ossai during a consultative meeting with members of the NDC in Ukwuani Local Government Area at Obiaruku on Thursday, October 29, 2026, where he called for unity within the party and intensified grassroots mobilisation to secure electoral support.

Ossai, who emphasised the need for party members to translate the growing visibility of NDC candidates on social media into tangible grassroots support, cautioned that online popularity alone could not guarantee electoral victory.

He urged members to return to the ten wards and polling units in Ukwuani to engage voters and canvass support for all NDC candidates in the 2027 elections, saying the party’s aspiration should extend beyond winning elections to bringing development to Delta State and Nigeria.

He assured party members that he and Iyovwaye were committed to resetting the state through industrial development, which he said would create employment opportunities for young people, alongside prudent management of government resources.

The deputy governorship candidate also appealed to the party leadership in Ukwuani to accommodate all interest groups and resolve differences in the overall interest of the party.

Expressing appreciation for the support extended to him and the governorship candidate, Ossai introduced himself as an accomplished educationist with teaching experience at primary, secondary and tertiary levels. He also described himself as a banker, business administrator and management consultant.

Responding, the Publicity Secretary of the NDC in Ukwuani LGA, Comrade Uche Emmanuel Emmerson, assured Ossai and his entourage that the chapter would mobilise vigorously across the local government area for all candidates of the party.

He specifically listed the NDC presidential candidate, Mr Peter Obi; Delta State governorship candidate, Deacon Chris Iyovwaye; Delta North senatorial candidate, Hon. Victor Ochei; Ndokwa/Ukwuani Federal Constituency candidate, Hon. Victor Nwokolo; and Ukwuani State Constituency candidate, Hon. Eze Omolu, as candidates the chapter would campaign for in the 2027 elections.

Emmerson expressed confidence in the commitment of the local government chapter to ensuring that the party’s candidates receive support across the area.

The meeting was attended by the Ukwuani LGA NDC Chairman, Deacon Donald Chukwunalu Ogenwenu, members of the local government executive, ward chairmen and their executives, party elders, leaders, youth and women leaders.

Also in attendance were party elders, Chief Idise Edward and Chief Onwuma Ngbu; the NDC candidate for Ukwuani State Constituency, Hon. Eze Omolu; and Chief Ossai Emmanuel, among other party members.
