The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP Delta State today, 18/5/2018 expressed what it described as “profound gratitude, heartfelt appreciation and sincere felicitations to the monarchs and the revered traditional rulers from the Delta Central Senatorial District, for passing a resounding vote of confidence on Governor Ifeanyi Okowa, and expressing satisfaction with his administration’s delivery of dividends of democracy.”
The party in a statement issued by its State Publicity Secretary, Mr. Ifeanyi Osuoza, stated that the PDP Delta state is greatly overwhelmed with joy at this unequivocally epochal and distinctively historic action by the traditional rulers of Delta Central Senatorial District.
Pointing out that the party’s joy is bouyed by two unshakable facts, Osuoza explained: “The first is the incontrovertible fact that this was a royal assemblage of the most distinguished Monarchs, which by demographic interpretation not only represents the great urhobo ethnic nationality but indeed symbolises the ethno cultural ethos of the gallant and ebullient Urhobo existential essence, cultural sophistication and enduring personality.
“The second fact was that the credibility of the meeting was perfected in the domain of one of the most revered and outstanding traditional rulers in the country today, His Royal Majesty, HRM Orhue 1, Major Gen. Felix Mujakperuo (rtd), the Orodje of Okpe, in whose majestic palace, in great Okpe kingdom of Delta State, the vote of confidence on Governor Okowa was pronounced and endorsed.”
Osuoza continued: “For the records, the most distinguished Ovie of Agbon Kingdom, HRM (Engr.) Mike Omeru Ogurimerime Ukori I, moved the motion for the vote of confidence and commended Governor Ifeanyi Okowa for the respect he has for the traditional institution in Delta State with the following pronouncement: For the first time in the history of Delta State, we have a Governor who relates well with the traditional rulers, he usually brief us about what his administration is doing. We raised some issues which he addressed to our satisfaction. We are with you, Your Excellency, come rain, come shine, and I, HRM Mike Omeru Ogurimerime Ukori I, move that we pass a vote of implicit confidence on the administration of Governor Okowa.
The statement reads: “For the records again, the motion was seconded by the Okobaro of Ughievwen, HRM Matthew Ediri Egbi, Owahwa II and was endorsed by the more than 18 traditional rulers in Urhobo land who attended the meeting.
“The Delta State PDP salutes the courage and bravery of these well respected Monarchs of Urhoboland for this unprecedented show of love, commitment and absolute reposition of confidence in the ability and capacity of our own Ekwueme and the leader of our great party, His Excellency, Governor Ifeanyi Okowa to lead Delta State well, especially at this auspicious period in our political evolution as a State, when the very essence of our collective unity is delicately poised on the threshold of the completion of a historic mandate.
“We are indeed eternally grateful for what is without doubt, the endorsement of our Governor for a second term by the Monarchs of Delta Central Senatorial Zone, captured succinctly in the comments of the cerebral Orodje of Okpe, who in his brief speech, described Governor Okowa as a performer and affirmed that the deliberation at the meeting which eventually culminated in the vote of confidence, was excellent and a true reflection of the feelings and mindset of the great people of Delta Central.
“We also wish to note with a clear sense of interpretation and significance, the fact that this vote of confidence on Governor Okowa by the Monarchs of Urhobo nation, is coming in the wake of the fabulous grand reception organized for His Excellency, Senator Dr. Ifeanyi Arthur Okowa, the Executive Governor of Delta State and Ekwueme of the universe, by the people of Anioma Nation, who not only celebrated him as their own son, but most significantly endorsed his quest for a second term and adopted Senator Ifeanyi Okowa as their sole candidate for the Delta State governorship election in 2019.
“As a responsible and proactive political party which is very much conscious of its mandate to the good people of Delta State, we make bold to say that we are in tandem with our leader Governor Ifeanyi Okowa, who has never hesitated to express his deep and sincere satisfaction that the traditional rulers have continued to appreciate our efforts, through the excellent performance of Governor Okowa’s administration in the effort to transform Delta State.
“Indeed we note with a gratifying feeling of appreciation that there is no event that we have had without the authoritative presence of the traditional rulers and we wish to thank them, not only for keeping their kingdoms peaceful, in tune with the peace building initiatives of the SMART Agenda of our administration, but most particularly for their unflinching support for the Governor Okowa administration, which they have encouraged in so many ways notable amongst which is their committed efforts and diplomatic brinkmanship in addressing and responding to the Fulani herdsmen/farmers clashes to ensure it did not escalate, despite some very obvious provocations even against the traditional institutions in the State.
“The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP Delta State will remain eternally in the debt of these great and outstanding Monarchs of our time for standing on the path of equity and justice and the story of their bravery and courageous decision to enshrine and enthrone fairness and, credibility with the seal of majestic royalty stamped firmly on their decisions, will forever be etched in the annals of our narrative and folklore as a United Delta State for posterity.
