2019 Delta South Senatorial seat: It’s Itsekiri’s turn for Senate, says Macaulay, James Manager shouldn’t be a professional senator

Former Secretary to the Government of Delta State, and foremost labour leader, Comrade Ovuozourie Macaulay says it is the turn of the Itsekiri ethnic group to go to the Senate to represent the people of Delta South Senatorial District in the red chamber in Abuja.
Macaulay made the declaration today, 14/8/2018, in Asaba, when he fielded questions from journalists during an interactive session with members of the Independent Correspondents’ Chapel (ICC), of the Delta State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ).
Asked why he was not interested in contesting for any elective position, Comrade Macaulay explained that it was not proper for him to seek to contest positions with the people he helped in sponsoring into those elective positions.
He said: “I have made House of Assembly and House of Representatives members. For instance, It will look stupid that I want to contest for the House of Representative s, with the same people that we helped to be there. It will not be proper that we are in a contest together for that position. Or do you want me to contest for House of Assembly? People will ask, “Is it hunger that is responsible?
“If you say ok, why don’t you go to the Senatorial level, I am one person who believes so much in principle. James Manager has stayed there for 16 – 20 years. That is the senatorial position that is being shared by three ethnic nationalities – Isoko, Itsekiri and Ijaw. It should rotate. Isoko has had it, Ijaws are having it, and they should hand over to Itsekiri. From Itsekiri it goes back to Isoko,” Macaulay said.
He continued: “People who know the truth should not disorganize the equation. It is not right for one person to be there for so long. But the Itsekiris should go and take their turn. And I have told friends who are Itsekiri that if you don’t take your turn in now in 20123, Isoko will enter the race. I don’t care whether it is James Manage or Uduaghan, but it is the turn of Itsekiri to go to the Senate.
“Ijaw has stayed there for 16 years, meaning that a child that I gave birth to 16 years ago, is almost leaving the university now if he is fast. It means that he is turning the post of a senator into a profession. Itsekiri should go and utilize their turn. If they don’t, in 2023 Isoko will not look at them. We will assume that they have given their turn to Ijaw to use,” Macaulay contended.
