Aniocha North LGA: I will not comment on the vote of no confidence, says embattled chairman

Mr.Chuks Oseme, Chairman, Aniocha North Local Government Council.

The chairman of Aniocha North Local Government, Mr. Chuks Oseme says he would not comment on the vote of no confidence passed on him by members of the Legislative chambers of the council.
He made the decline to comment this morning, Wednesday, 21/11/2018 when banneronlinenews.com finally got through to his line. He said: “Many people have been calling me, but I don’t want to comment.”
Disagreement between the Legislators and the Chairman of has been a recurring issue since they came in early this year, a situation that has polarized the entire political leadership of the local government area, with Oseme being accused of trying in conjunction with a minority group among the political leaders to foist an unpopular candidate as leader of the council’s legislative arm.
The move was heavily resisted by the majority who insisted that the view of the majority must prevail in the choice of leader of the legislative arm. Since then, it has been a cat and mouse situation at the troubled council, which has been observing a kind of silence akin to that of the graveyard.
As if not being able to contain the situation any more, the members of the Legislative arm under the leadership of Mr Nwaonye Origin Ekene, at its sitting on Tuesday 13th November, 2018, unanimously passed a vote of no confidence on Mr. Oseme, alleging “fraudulent practices and violation of due process” against him.
The Legislators also accused the Clerk of the House, Mrs Ogbodu, of conniving with Council Chairman to deny them opportunity of carrying out their lawful duties as she absconded with the Mace.
Accordingly, the legislators therefore resolved and passed a vote of no confidence on Chuks Oseme as the Council Chairman, with a notification of it sent to the Delta State House of Assembly through the Assemby’s Speaker, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori in a petition.
The Petition titled, Vote of No Confidence on Hon. The Prayers of the Legislative Arm which was also included in the petition reads thus:
“We pray the Speaker and Honourable Members of Delta State House of Assembly to:
“Based on his refusal to appear before the House and undermining the House numerous invitations and his continuous slogan that “The councillors have no constitutional power to oversight the Executive Chairman at the Council Level. We pray you to come to our aid and save the entire people of Aniocha North by:
i) Setting up an investigation panel of inquiry, relying on, section 131 (II)1 of Delta State Local Government Law 2013 as amended.
ii) Requesting for every necessary financial record relying on section 131(11)3 of the Delta State Local Government law 2013 as amended,

iv) Investigate the TLG, former HPM, HOD Works and the Clerk of the House Aniocha North Local Government Council.
v) Removal of the Clerk of the House for complicity and dereliction of duty.”
The banneronlinenews.com therefore, consider it curious that the Chairman with such weight allegations would deem it necessary to say that he would not comment to avail members of the public to whom he is responsible to the opportunity to get his own side of the story. He ought to remember that he was voted in by the people, and he swore to an oath to show responsibility to the people, to be accountable.
Mr. Oseme’s response not to comment when contacted by the media, which is the link between the ruler and the ruled is the height of pride and arrogance, and an affront on the people he swore to serve.
