The appearance and subsequent speech of the national leader of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Delta State and former governor, Chief James Onanefe Ibori doused and eased frayed nerves earlier created by the speech made by a candidate that left a soured taste in the mouth.

Senator Peter Nwaoboshi, who is also the PDP senatorial candidate for Delta North while speaking to the large crowd that turned up at the grand finale of the PDP Delta Campaigns at the Owa Oyibu, Ika North East Local Government Area, took time to throw tantrums at his opponents and political enemies, and almost spoilt the day for the many party faithful and observers that had been in joyous mood all the while.

The campaign organizers and onlookers watched helplessly as the senator slipped into a fit of anger bordering on animosity, apparently against his opponents at the primary elections, saying among other things that “it is God that gives power”, and that there is no amount of going to court to challenge his candidature that will make him lose. “I am a lawyer, and I will fight till the end,” Senator Nwaoboshi said.

Of course, listeners were taken aback by the outbursts of the senator, which some listeners described as uncalled for.

It took the matured, statesmanlike and skilled intervention of Chief Ibori to deodorize the ambience fouled by the senator. Having praised Governor Ifeanyi Okowa for the diligent work of progress he has made as governor, and asking Deltans and the people of Delta North to vote for all the PDP candidates at the elections, Ibori said: “I wish to thank all the contestants (at the primaries) and who by divine providence won and those who did not make it to understand that it is God who decides who wins. We can only be helpers, but God ultimately takes the decision.”

Urging the contestants that lost at the primaries to learn from the perseverance and patience of Governor Okowa who had a harrowing experience but remained dogged till God said, it is time for him to take his turn as governor. “I want to plead with them to remove acrimony. Passions can rise, but my plea is that we should learn to be patient and to persevere,” Ibori, fondly called Odidigboigbo pleaded.

Earlier, while thanking the people of Ika nation, and indeed, the entire Anioma people for supporting him fully in his governorship bid. “We know you are 100 per cent. This time make your votes for the PDP 10 fold because we want to make a statement,” Ibori said.

He continued: “ I am an Urhobo man from Oghara, Ethiope Ease. I want to assure you that the Urhobos from Delta Central will speak for you. The Urhobos are solidly behind you. I will continue to say it; it is the turn of Anioma, it is the turn of Anioma.
“ I plead with our brothers from Delta Central to give the people of Anioma another chance. It is just four years. Ijaws will do it, Isokos will do it, Urhobos will do it.”
