The Onicha-Ugbo and Issele-Uku communities of Aniocha North Local Government Area of Delta State have been thrown into grief and mourning following the sudden death of Dr. Andy Odozi from the dastardly attack on him by persons suspected to be Fulani herdsmen.
A notable medical Doctor and proprietor of Goodnews Hospital, Issele-Uku, the amiable Dr. hailed from Onicha-Ugbo.
Sources told banneronlinenews.com that he was shot in an ambush by suspected Fulani herdsmen on the Issele-Uku-Onisha-Ugbo Expressway on Tuesday, May 14, 2019. He succumbed to death arising from the gunshot injuries on Saturday, May 25, 2019 at the Federal Medical Centre, Asaba.
It was learnt that the FMC lacked the CT Scanning machine, and so could not detect where all the bullets pumped into Odozi were lodged. When he was finally taken to a private clinic in Onitsha, Anambra State, his situation, sources said had become complicated and beyond what medical hands could manage. He died thereafter.
A sexagenarian, the late Dr. Odozi was a pensioner with the Delta State Health Management Board and with over three decades of medical practice experience.
A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the party’s pioneer chairman in Aniocha North as well as the party’s chairmanship candidate at the 2018 local government elections.
An active member of the Nigerian medical Association (NMA), late Dr. Andy Odozi attended the Pilgrims Baptist Grammar School, Issele-Uku, and the University of Benin, Benin City, Edo State.
He was married with children.
When contacted, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Delta State Command, DSP Onome Onovwakpoyeya could neither confirm nor deny the story as she was still trying to get across to the Divisional Police Office in Isele-Uku.
