Address Ginuwa Road flood menace, Warri South Council told

A Warri based Public Analyst, Comrade Joshua Akpobor, has called on Warri South Local Government Council to solve the perennial flooding on Ginuwa Road by J.J.C area Warri.

Akpobor who spoke to newsmen on the matter shortly after a recent heavy down pour in Warri lamented that over the years nothing has been done to put a permanent solution to the menace of the flooding.

He said the flood had damaged many valuable properties of residents of the area and that the regular water log in the area has earned the road the unenviable name of “Ginuwa waterside” amongst motorists and riders of commercial tricycles popularly known as keke.

“As a result of this ugly situation keke riders and other vehicle users avoid this road during rainy season. An aged woman almost lost her life when she fell into a very bad spot at the JJC area of the road. So let me use this medium to send a ‘save our soul’ (SOS) message to the Warri South Local Government Council authorities to do something urgent to solve this permanent flooding on this road before the peak of the raining season,” he stated.

Investigations show that one of the causes of the flooding was blocked drainages linking Ginuwa Road through Mowoe Road, Ukpokiti Street and the Warri Canal.

It was observed that some unscrupulous residents of the area empty their wastes into the drainages.

It was also observed that most of the drainages have also collapsed due to erosion like the ones at the side of Agbassa Primary School by Mowoe Road, Warri.
