The Delta State Police Command has put in place “Operation Order”, as a measure to ensure the safety and security of persons before, during and after the African Cup Nations (AFCON) qualifying series and international friendly matches between Nigeria’s Super Eagles, Seychelles and the Egyptian National team.
The Acting Police Public relations Officer of the Command, Assistant Superintendent of Police, Chuks Orisewezie in a statement stated:
“In view of the forth coming football Soccer Fiesta tagged “AFCON qualifier and International friendly match” billed to take place here at Stephen Keshi Township Stadium Asaba on the 22nd and 26th of March, 2019, the Command is expecting visitors from other African countries especially, Seychelles and Egypt, among others.
“It is therefore expected that we extend to them our warm hospitality which Nigeria is known for during their stay as they will be lodging in Hotels, and visiting other places of importance. The Nigerian National team, the Super Eagle has already arrived while other nationals will be arriving soon.
“The Commissioner of Police CP Adeyinka Adeleke assures all and sundry that adequate security has been put in place, for their safety and security before, during and after the event.
“Operation order has been drawn-up and well-trained security personnel deployed to all the nook and crannies of the State, escort provided for the players and officials.
“The deployed personnel have been briefed on the rules of engagement and professional code of conduct in line with international best practices in the discharge of their duties to ensure a hitch-free fiesta. He enjoins Deltans to be security conscious and report any crime to the Police or other security agencies nearest to them.
“He reiterates that Delta is peaceful and admonished parents and guardians to warn their children and wards not to engage themselves in any act capable of breaching the existing peace as adequate sanctions will be meted to any person(s) found wanting.”
