Dr Alex Akpodiete
An initiative that is aimed at helping Nigerians to enjoy safer internet use is being put together by a Nigerian ICT expert, Dr. Alex Atawa-Akpodiete, and it will hold on Thursday, November 1, 2018, at the VCP Hotel in Victoria Island, Lagos.
He is expected to deliver a paper at Project Management Institute (PMI) Nigeria, on “Technology, Innovation and the future of Project Management”. The cyber-security expert is the owner of Atawa Technologies, which is part of Atawa Group LLC, with branches in Nigeria, the United States and Trinidad.
Akpodiete told banneronlinenews.com that safe internet use or cyber-security is basically the security of the cyberspace, otherwise known as the internet.
According to him, it broadly covers everything from spam, malware, ransomware, denial of service, social engineering, theft of personal information (bank accounts), secure browsing, safer internet, etc.
He said an understanding of how to keep our internet use safe is very important to Nigeria because Nigerians use the internet also. “Unfortunately, Nigeria is considered a big cybersecurity risk. If you take CompTIA Security+ (Sec+) certification course, “Nigeria 419 scam” is discussed. I have the Sec+ certification because, under the US government regulation 8570, it is a minimum requirement to work for them,” Akpodiete said.
Answering a question, the ICT expert said: “Project Management Institute (PMI) is a global organization founded in 1969 with over 2.9 million professionals in over 300 countries. It is currently headquartered in the US. If you want successful projects, especially in Nigeria, use PMI certified individuals because we go through education and experience requirements, plus a gruelling four-hour exam to become certified and put PMP (Project Management Professional) after our names. Many jobs internationally require PMP. See www.PMI.org.
“The PMI Nigeria chapter operates through a network of branches and outreaches across Nigeria, each of which holds regular Chapter meetings featuring industry expert speakers. They are located at FBA Suites, 2nd floor, Plot 5 Chief Yesufu str, off Oniru Road, VI Lagos, Nigeria. See www.PMInigeria.org.”
Akpodiete also explained that PMI Nigeria Conference 2018 has the theme: Innovate, Motivate, Integrate. The conference will hold on Thursday, November 1, 2018, at VCP Hotel in Victoria Island, Lagos.
