Christopher Maikalangu of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has won the keenly contested Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC) chairmanship election, recording a decisive landslide over his closest rival, Dr. Moses Ogidi Paul of the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
Maikalangu, the incumbent AMAC chairman and the anointed candidate of the Federal Capital Territory Minister, Nyesom Wike, polled 40,295 votes to defeat Paul, who secured 12,109 votes to place a distant second.
Paul’s candidacy enjoyed the open backing of prominent ADC chieftain and 2023 Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi. The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), whose candidate, Mr. Zadna Dantani, stepped down less than 48 hours to the election following the intervention of Wike, garnered 3,398 votes.
