Deltans have again been called upon to desist from self medication to avoid jeopardizing their health condition especially in view of the prevailing coronavirus pandemic.
The Commissioner for Information, Mr Charles Aniagwu who made the call on Monday while speaking with journalists in his office, noted that some persons were yet to appreciate the endemic nature of the pandemic, stressing that there was need for all stakeholders to join in educating others on the reality of the virus.
On his experience, the commissioner emphasized that as a Nigerian, he discovered that Malaria was different from COVID 19 despite the fact that some symptoms of COVID 19 were similar to that of Malaria.
The best way to check the spread of the coronavirus, Aniagwu stated, was to constantly observe the protocols as well as visiting hospital for proper diagnosis and treatment, if positive to forestall the misuse or abuse of drug.
On the need for people to be conscious and go for text to ensure the status of the individual, Mr Aniagwu stated that some persons might not manifest the symptoms of the pandemic yet they might have been infected and could infect others.
The commissioner stated that the state government was working with local government chairmen, traditional rulers, the press, and opinion leaders, among others to sensitize the people.
While speaking on alleged stigmatization of infected persons, the commissioner said that there was no need for people to stigmatize infected persons since the infection did not come as a result of any wrong deed on the part of the infected persons.
He therefore charged all to work together to check the infection rate with a view to eradicating the virus eventually.
