Issele-Uku, the headquarters of Aniocha North Local Government erupted in a carnival this afternoon following the electoral trouncing that Engr. Emeka Nwaobi delivered to his rival, Mr. Bazim Biose in the House of Assembly primary elections held in the ancient town of the Oligbo Kingdom.
At the close of voting, Nwaobi polled a total of 80 votes in the delegates’ election to beat Biose who garnered only 54 votes at the election that had Mr. Chiedu Ebie as the returning officer.
There were a total of 137 accredited voters and three void votes.
The returning officer, standing on the authority conferred on his, declared Emeka Nwaobi as the winner of the Aniocha North house of assembly primary election, and consequently declared Emeka Nwobi as duly elected and therefore, returned as the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate.
Just as the Nwaobi’s votes were still being counted, his supporters, sensing from the votes already counted for him that he had effectively crossed over to emerge the winner, they erupted in ecstasy, and joy. The sleepy town came alive with gladness that soon blossomed into a frenzy and beatitude as the news spread round Issele-Uku town.
Everyone in Issele-Uku soon became overwhelmed with joy, men, and women, young and old, all supporters of Nwaobi, whose popularity can be likened to that of a cult figure.
The drums were rolled out; praises and thanks were offered by the jubilant crowd to God for seeing their man through despite what many described as the evil machinations of some devious political leaders to thwart his bid for the second term in the Delta state House of Assembly.
Nwaobi was carried shoulder high by his supporters from the voting ground out into the street, and then a procession formed that took the dancing troupe of supporters and Nwaobi straight to the palace of the Obi of Issele-Uku, Nduka II, amid gun salutes.
At the palace, the real dance began with Nwaobi and the crowd of supporters and well-wishers got enthusiastically engaged, dancing to the (Ukpupe) rhythm and dance beat.
Journalists, onlookers watched in disbelief the kind of popularity that Emeka Nwaobi enjoyed among the people of Aniocha North who trouped out spontaneously to be part of their lawmaker’s success story at the delegates’ primary election.
The people taunted those that had opposed Nwaobi’s return, saying that God is bigger than them. Those who spoke to Banneronlinenews.com attributed the overwhelming popularity that the lawmaker enjoyed to his pleasant personality and a good representation of the people. “By his success today, he has liberated Aniocha North from the grips of despots and stranglers,” a man who declined to have his name mention said.
For Mr. Dibie Owen Jnr., the people like Emeka Nwaobi because of his selfless services, and easy accessibility. “He is someone that everybody wants to reckon with. The people are okay with Nwaobi’s style of leadership, openness and representation,” Dibie Owen Jnr. Said.
Mrs. Ngozi said: “We like Emeka Nwaobi’s mannerism and behaviour. He is humble and full of humility. He is not arrogant. He is humble both to the old and the young. He gives food to widows. Nwaobi is a man with the human face.”
For Mrs. Nkechi Onyemenem, a businesswoman from Obomkpa, but resides in Issele-Uku, “Emeka Nwaobi helped to do the Obomkpa and Ukwunzu Roads. And in Issele-Uku, he did so many good things for the people. He did the Obomkpa Road, within two years of his being at the House of Assembly, while other leaders in the past ate the money earmarked for the road project in the past. He pays widows monthly and pays the bills of patients in the hospital. Emeka Nwaobi is a good man.”
Mr. Chuks Obianuka, from Idumuje-Ukor Ward 1 said: “Nwaobi is a promising young man with a great future ahead. He is a God fearing man and one who carries the youth of Aniocha North along. He is a man that hears the cries of the people; a God-fearing man. Nwaobi has brought development to Aniocha North. He brought equity and fairness in Aniocha North.
Answering questions from journalists at the Obi’s palace, Issele-Uku, Emeka Nwaobi was full of praises and thanksgiving to God for making it possible for him to emerge victoriously. He also solicited for more support from the people of Aniocha North not to relent in their support for Governor Ifeanyi Okowa at the 2019 general elections.
Nwaobi also in answer to another question, called on his opponent to join hands with him so that PDP will be formidable at the 2019 elections. “I will call him to speak with him and invite him to be part of the team for the purpose of making PDP victorious in 2019. “We have finished the in-house contest, I urge him and his supporters to be part of us and ensure that PDP, our party and Governor Ifeanyi Okowa succeeds at the 2019 general elections.
