Aniocha North Legislative Arm begins, as Ekene Nwaonye Emerges Leader

The Legislative Arm of Aniocha North Local Government, Delta State has been inaugurated with Hon. Ekene Nwaonye, Councillor Ward 8, Issele-Uku emerging as the Leader.
The Legislative Arm’s inauguration was sequel to the proclamation for the inauguration by the Executive Chairman of the Local Government, Hon. Chuks Oseme, through a letter dated January 15th, 2018 and read by the Deputy Clerk of the Aniocha North Legislative Arm, Mr. Michael Monye, who presided over the ceremony.
“In exercise of the power conferred on me by Section 105 (3)(As applicable) under the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria as amended, I Honourable Chuks Oseme, Chairman, Aniocha North Local Government Council of Delta State hereby proclaim that the first sitting of the Aniocha North Legislative Council shall hold on Monday, January 15, 2018 at the main chambers of the legislative council, Issele-Uku at 11 am,” the letter stated.
Nwaonye’s election as the Leader of the Legislative Arm was based on his nomination by the councilor for ward 9, Idumuje-Unor, Hon. Offor Anthony Kidochukwu, seconded by Hon. Okolie Alexander Emechazia, Councillor Ward 5, Onicha-Olona.
Nwaonye’s nomination was unanimously resolved where there was no counter nomination from the members of the Legislative Arm.
The House at the inaugural sitting also unanimously elected Councilor ward 9, Idumuje-Unor, Hon. Offor Anthony Kidochukwu as the Deputy Leader upon his nomination by Councilor ward 11, Ukwu-Nzu, Hon. Okafor Peter Chiedozie, when it was called for by the presiding officer, Mr. Michael Monye.
Relevant oath of office was thereafter administered to the Leader, Hon. Ekene Nwaonye and the Deputy Leader, Hon. Okafor Peter Chiedozie by the Deputy Clerk of the Legislative Arm.
The Leader, in consonance with the roles, later swore in other members of the House, whereby the oath of office was administered to them in an atmosphere of peace and tranquility.
Those inaugurated included, Hon. Jude Kogwu Ogbogwu, ward 12 Ubulubu, Hon. Philip Kawekwune ward 7 Issele-Uku, Hon. Njoagwuani Chiedu Obioma ward1 Obior, Hon. Okafor Peter Chiedozie ward11 Ukwu- Nzu, and Hon Asiagwu Henry Ekene Ward 2 Onicha-Ugbo.
Others were Hon. Nwaonye Ekene Francis Ward 8 Issele-Uku, Hon. Okolie Alexander Ekehazia ward 5 Onicha Olona, Hon. Emmanuel ofili Ikenwa Ward 6 Issele-Mkpitime/Issele-Asagba, Hon. Bardi Nkechi Theresa ward 13 Ugbodu, and Hon. Offor Anthony Kidochukwu ward 9, Idumuje-Unor.
In his inaugural address, the Leader of Aniocha North Legislative Arm, Hon. Ekene Nwaonye , aka, Origine expressed his profound joy and appreciation to members of the Legislative Arm for reposing confidence in him, even as he ensured that he will work with them for the overall interest of the people of Aniocha North who elected them.
He commended the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, for ensuring a smooth inauguration and said that the House would work in line with the manifesto of the party.
The occasion which was attended by a cross section of the people of Aniocha North, who came out in their large numbers from the various communities in the area was witnessed by the Honourable member representing Aniocha North in the State House of Assembly, Hon. Engr. Emeka Nwaobi, the State Commissioner Directorate of Arts, Culture and Tourism, Chief Dan Okenyi, the South South PDP Executive Member, Mr. Chuks Nwaebuni, the Chairman, Delta State House of Assembly Service Commission, Chief Barr, Josephine Ada Kachikwu and the Deputy Chairman of Aniocha North Local Government, Hon. Tobe Ukwamedua amongst others.
In an interview with newsmen after the event, Hon. Nwaobi commended the peaceful nature of the inauguration and said that the massive turnout of the people of the area to witness the ceremony was a clear attestation of the love they have for the PDP, whereby thirteen members of the Legislative Arm were sponsored by the party.
“I witnessed with joy the peaceful inauguration of the councilors today and I pray that the Almighty God grant them the strength in which they will go on with the activities of the legislature with a view to moving the area forward,” he prayed.
On his part, Chief Okenyi lauded the inauguration of the House, saying that as somebody with sound knowledge of the workings of the legislature at the various levels, he could attest that the inauguration was the best in the history of the Local Government since its creation.
He therefore called on the newly inaugurated councilors to endeavour to make themselves available for training for them to be abreast with their functions.
Also speaking with newsmen, a Chieftain of PDP in the State, Mr. Chuks Nwaebuni who is an Executive Member of PDP South South Zone, stated that the event was smooth and peaceful, confirming that due process was followed in the inauguration of the councilors.
“For those who know me I stand for due process, I stand for the law; I stand to ensure that PDP constitution is not desecrated at any point in time. That is why I want to ensure that I witness it and I saw that it followed due process. The officers were duly nominated; we saw the beauty of democracy being played out. No leader imposed anybody on the councilors,” Nwaebuni affirmed, even as he called on the Leader, and other members of the House to carry out their function with the fear of God.
