The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ward 7, Ika North East Local Government Area of Delta State, has suspended Mr. Charles Aniagwu, the Delta State Commissioner for Works (Rural Roads) and Public Information, over alleged anti-party activities.
In a formal letter titled “Re: Suspension from Party Activities,” the ward leadership said the action was taken pursuant to Article 21 of the APC Constitution (as amended), which provides for disciplinary measures against members accused of misconduct.
According to the letter, Aniagwu’s suspension takes immediate effect pending the outcome of an investigation into the allegations levelled against him.
The ward executive accused the commissioner of engaging in activities contrary to the party’s constitution and principles. Among the specific allegations is the claim that he personally endorsed what the ward described as an “illegal consensus Exco list” for Ward 7 without the approval of the Ward Chairman.
The party further alleged that Aniagwu took unilateral decisions without authorization from the ward leadership, worked against the interests of the APC and its candidates, and undermined the party’s leadership and decisions despite not being the Ward Chairman or a member of the ward executive committee.
“As a member of APC, you are expected to uphold the party’s constitution, rules, and decisions. Your actions are deemed to be in breach of these obligations,” the letter stated.
The commissioner has been directed to immediately cease all party activities, refrain from using party symbols, logos or platforms, and abstain from participating in any party meetings or events until further notice.
The ward leadership also disclosed that a disciplinary committee would be constituted to investigate the allegations. Aniagwu is expected to be notified of the date of the hearing and will be given the opportunity to defend himself.
The suspension letter was jointly signed by the Ward Chairman, Chukwuka Ojinji; the Vice Chairman, Ambrose Okafor; and the Secretary, Magboma Confidence.
The development marks a significant political twist in Ika North East, as it involves a serving commissioner in the Delta State Executive Council, and signals deepening internal tensions within the party structure at the grassroots level.
