Apoki to deliver keynote at 2026 Advocate annual lecture on Nigeria’s governance crisis

The Chairman of Advocate Lecture Series Board of Council (ALSBC), Olorogun Abraham Ogbodo, has announced renowned international conference speaker and good governance advocate, Dr. Charles Apoki, as the keynote speaker for the 2026 Advocate Publication Annual Lecture Series.

The announcement was contained in a press release issued and signed by the Secretary of the ALSBC, Mr. Shedrack Onitsha. The statement noted that the selection of Dr. Apoki followed a rigorous search process aimed at identifying a speaker whose experience and insight align with the vision of the board for the 2026 edition of the annual lecture.

According to the release, the board was pleased to appoint Dr. Apoki in recognition of his reputation as a respected public speaker and resource person to corporate organisations, institutions and government ministries.

“The Advocate Lecture Series Board of Council (ALSBC), after a thorough search, is pleased to announce Dr. Charles Apoki, an international conference speaker and good governance advocate, as the keynote speaker for the 2026 Advocate Publication Annual Lecture Series,” the statement said.

Dr. Apoki is expected to deliver a keynote address on the theme, “From Ballot to Patronage: Why Electoral Victory Fails to Deliver Good Governance in Nigeria.”

The lecture will be followed by a panel discussion featuring experts drawn from the judiciary, law enforcement agencies and civil society organisations, who will examine the issues raised in the keynote presentation.

The event is scheduled to hold on Thursday, April 16, 2026, at Wetland Hotel in Ughelli, Delta State.

According to the ALSBC, the 2026 lecture will focus on the widening gap between electoral victories and effective governance in Nigeria. The forum will interrogate how elections in the country often become mechanisms for transferring power from the electorate to political patrons rather than producing accountable leadership.

The discourse is also expected to analyse the roles of godfatherism, weak institutional oversight and the monetisation of politics in undermining democratic mandates. Participants will further explore practical reforms capable of restoring public trust and aligning electoral outcomes with service delivery and national development.

Dr. Apoki is a distinguished graduate of the University of Ibadan College of Medicine, where he obtained his medical degree in 1984. He also holds a Master’s degree in Public Administration.

An ordained clergyman and widely respected conference speaker, he has addressed audiences across several denominations and professional platforms and remains a sought-after resource person for corporate organisations, institutions and government ministries.

Over the years, he has travelled extensively across Africa and Europe in the course of his ministry, delivering transformational teachings and leadership messages. He is also the convener of the Word and Wisdom Conference, a capacity-building platform that brings together pastors, church leaders, entrepreneurs and professionals for leadership development and empowerment.

Dr. Apoki is the proprietor of Petra Christian Academy, an educational institution that provides nursery, primary and secondary education in Nigeria, and is also a seasoned marriage counsellor.
