The election of Governor Siminalayi Fubara of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) as the duly elected governor of Rivers State has been affirmed by the Appeal Court sitting in Lagos State.
The court dismissed the petition filed by the governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Rivers State, Patrick Tonye-Cole, against the governor and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
The court affirmed the verdict of the Tribunal, which had in October upheld Fubara’s electoral victory. According to the court, the APC that sponsored Cole had withdrawn the petition against Fubara’s victory.
Cole, who came in person to the court, had petitioned the court to declare him the rightful winner of the election, alleging irregularities and misconduct in the electoral process.
