Asaba’s monarch courts corporate Nigeria, unveils multi-billion dollar vision for ancient city

LAGOS, Nigeria – In a bold move to transform Asaba into a premier economic hub, the Asagba of Asaba, His Royal Majesty, Prof. Epiphany Azinge, is set to host an exclusive evening with corporate Nigeria in Lagos later this month to unveil a raft of multi-million dollar investment opportunities in the Delta State capital.

The event, scheduled for March 29, 2026, at Eko Hotel and Suites, aims to reposition Asaba as “the strategic gateway to Nigeria’s next economic powerhouse.” The monarch will present a comprehensive blueprint to investors, highlighting the city’s unique geographical advantage as the nexus linking the South-East, South-South, and South-West markets, underpinned by a state-led industrial framework focused on Public-Private Partnerships (PPPs) and risk sharing.

At the heart of the investment pitch is the ambitious Asaba Waterfront City, a 999,999 square meter, Grade A mixed-use development rising along the banks of the River Niger. Described as a modern, tech-driven city, the project is already under construction, with a projected completion date between 2028 and 2030. It promises advanced infrastructure, integrated flood control systems, and premium residential and commercial spaces designed to accommodate the city’s rapid population growth.

In addition to the Waterfront City, the Asagba will showcase two other critical infrastructure projects: the Asaba Ultra Modern Mall and the International Conference Centre. The conference centre, also under construction, is envisioned as a multidimensional complex to support large-scale gatherings. It will feature a 1,500-seater auditorium, a 1,000-capacity ultra-modern banquet hall, and 11 meeting rooms, complemented by restaurants, a cultural centre, and offices to ensure its long-term sustainability.

“The monarch is convening this dialogue to create a dedicated platform for direct engagement, relationship building, and deal origination,” said Ogbueshi Chike Ogeah, Chairman of the Sub-Committee on Publicity & Contacts for the organizing committee. “This is a convergence of culture and capital.”

Prof. Azinge, a renowned legal scholar and former Director-General of the Nigerian Institute for Advanced Legal Studies, will also spotlight Asaba’s growing reputation as a creative hub. The Maryam Babangida Park and Film Village will be presented as Nigeria’s answer to Hollywood, a burgeoning one-stop centre for Nollywood productions.

Beyond infrastructure and entertainment, the presentation will underscore the city’s enabling economic environment. Key selling points include the operational Onitsha River Port, the viability of the Asaba Airport with its scheduled local and international connections, and the immense potential for agriculture and agro-business.

Crucially, the Asagba will assure investors of a streamlined process for land acquisition. The royal palace, in close collaboration with the Delta State Government, has moved to eliminate all encumbrances to land for real estate development. This includes cracking down on touts and illegal toll collectors, ensuring a smooth and transparent process for developers.

“Our royal palace has leveraged its symphony with the state government to remove areas of controversy in access to land,” the statement added. “This interface has set the stage for a high level of development and upgrade of infrastructure within the capital territory.”

The March 29 meeting signals a significant push by the traditional institution to partner with the private sector in shaping the future of Asaba, positioning it not just as a state capital, but as the next prime destination for business and investment in Nigeria.
