The Delta State Commissioner for Information, Dr. Ifeanyi Osuoza, has called on members of the Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ), Delta State chapter, to support the government of Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, noting that the Governor means well for the state as could be seen from his far-reaching development strides in the past year.

Dr. Osuoza made the remarks when members of the Nigeria Association of Women Journalists, NAWOJ, Delta state chapter, led by their state chairman, Comrade Sonia Onobunjo, paid him a courtesy visit in his office in Asaba, the state capital on Tuesday.

The Commissioner welcomed the offer of collaboration from the journalists, noting that the ministry would do its best to accede to reasonable requests for partnerships that would be mutually beneficial.

While emphasizing on the need for them to remain committed to their duties within and outside the association, Osuoza promised to support NAWOJ in actualizing its objectives whenever the need arises.

He also proposed regular interactions between the Association and the ministry to foster a positive relationship between the government and the association.Earlier, the Chairperson of NAWOJ, Delta State, Ms. Sonia Onobunjo, said that they were at the ministry to formally felicitate the commissioner on his appointment and explore avenues of sustaining cordial relationship with the ministry as well as seek collaboration on a number of issues.

Onobunjo listed the responsibilities of NAWOJ to include carrying out advocacy for the rights of women, capacity-building for women journalists, advocacy on special days set aside by the United Nations/UNESCO to promote important societally relevant issues, among other responsibilities. Speaking in the same vein, the zonal Vice President, NAWOJ, South-South, and Director of New Media in the Ministry of Information, Mrs. Stella Macaulay, brought to light some challenges faced by women in NAWOJ.

She mentioned the state of the physical and mental health of the women in NAWOJ as one of the many agendas that would be brought before the Commissioner as part of proposals for capacity-building for female journalists in the state.
