The porous nature of the country’s security architecture has drawn the attention of the Executive Assistant on Religion, to the Delta State Governor, Bishop Greatman Nmalagu, as he reflects on how Nigerians can celebrate Christmas and New year without losing their sleep.
The assistant to the Governor in a message to Nigerians, urged the people to pray for a better government that will be responsible for securing the of lives and properties of Nigerians.
He stated that it’s common knowledge that the Nigerian security network is not functioning as expected, as a result of lack of capacity of the government at the federal level, with the high level of what is seen as independence of each security departments, without a central coordination.
Bishop Nmalagu who congratulated Nigerians on the occasion of this year’s Christmas celebration, used the opportunity to ask Nigerians to pray for the leadership at all level, especially at the Federal level, to change tactics in the way and manner they coordinate security issues, as the life of every Nigerian matters.
“I wonder how Nigerians will celebrate this Christmas without losing their sleep?
“It’s a common knowledge that the Nigerian security network is not functioning. Not with the high level of stealing, kidnapping, and bandit attacks in different parts of the country.
“In the spirit of the birth of our Lord Jesus, we should have a rethink to our security systems. Let us change tactics, because every life of Nigerians matter.”
On behalf of my family, and the religious body in the state, I congratulate every Nigerian for this year’s Christmas celebration. It’s a year laced with too many uncertainties. But we have overcome those uncertainties with our belief in our Lord Jesus Christ.”
“Let us pray for the government, to work on our security architecture. It’s an area that needs serious improvement,” he said.
