The Delta Ijaw Women In Politics (DIWIP) have been told not to be left behind but to quickly board the Stronger Delta train by taking advantage of the various self improvement programmes of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) administration of Governor Ifeanyi Okowa.
The Senior political Adviser to the Governor of Delta state, Rt. Hon. Funkekeme Solomon made the admonition today, February 20, 2020 when he hosted the executive members of the group from the five local government areas of Burutu, Bomadi, Warri South West, Warri North and Patani in the conference room of his office.
While noting that Governor Okowa is very much interest in women getting involved in politics, he advised them to key into the various women development programmes by liaising with the Women Affairs Ministry, the Job creation office, among others so they can be abreast of self development and skill acquisition programmes of the government for their own benefit.
“You must interface with other relevant groups and agencies and key into the Stronger Delta agenda,” Rt. Hon. Solomon said, adding that it is their duty to explain to the people out their Delta state will be stronger by the time Governor Okowa leaves office by 2023.
The Senior Political Adviser urged DIWIP Executives not to remain ad hoc but to reach out to other Ijaw women in various political offices, as well as organize seminars so as to make impact.
He acknowledged that the group has existed even as the group did its best in the various campaigns for PDP in the five local governments.
While informing them that action is being taken on the list of requests made by them, Solomon assured the group that the state government will reach out to them by getting them involved in various skill acquisitions, job creation and allied self improvement programmes of the administration.
Earlier, DIWIP President, Mrs. Tina Yinkore Ogbeni had told the Senior political Adviser that she led the executive officers to felicitate with him on his appointment by the governor and to thank Governor Okowa for the kind gesture.
