After more than a decade away from the public spotlight, former Niger Delta agitator and businessman, Government Ekpemupolo, popularly known as Tompolo, on Wednesday, October 15, 2025 made a dramatic return to public life as Chief Launcher of the Delta State Security Trust Fund.

The landmark event, held at the Government House, Asaba, and presided over by Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, brought together top government officials, security chiefs, traditional rulers, and community leaders from across the state.

Tompolo’s appearance marked his first formal engagement with government in years, drawing widespread attention from political watchers and Niger Delta stakeholders who viewed it as a powerful symbol of reconciliation and renewed partnership for peace in the region.

The Delta State Security Trust Fund, an initiative of the Oborevwori administration, is designed to mobilize resources for strengthening security operations, upgrading infrastructure, improving intelligence gathering, and enhancing coordination among security agencies operating in the state.

In his address, Governor Oborevwori praised Tompolo’s participation as a sign of unity and collective responsibility in tackling emerging security challenges, especially in the riverine communities.

“Tompolo’s presence today sends a strong message of solidarity and shared commitment to peace and development,” the governor said. “My administration remains fully committed to sustaining peace and ensuring that Delta continues to be a safe and thriving state.”

Goodwill messages from service commanders and traditional rulers echoed similar sentiments, applauding the establishment of the Security Trust Fund as a proactive and sustainable framework for managing the state’s security architecture.

Tompolo, who maintained a low profile for much of the past decade, was warmly received by guests and dignitaries. Performing his role as Chief Launcher, he pledged to continue supporting initiatives that promote peace, unity, and development in Delta State.

“Peace is the foundation of progress,” Tompolo said. “We will keep working together to protect our communities and ensure the safety and prosperity of Delta State.”

The ceremony was widely described as historic — marking not just Tompolo’s long-awaited public reemergence, but also the beginning of a new era of cooperation between government and critical stakeholders in securing Delta’s future.
