CHISOSA donates 300 desks to alma mater

Mr. Patick Ukah, Delta Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education.

BY Patrick Mgbodo
To facilitate learning in a better conducive environment, Comprehensive High
School, Old Students’ Association (CHISOSA) today, Monday January 4, 2021 donated 300 sets of modern reading desks to their alma mater.

The presentation was witnessed by the Commissioner for Basic and Secondary
Education, Chief Patrick Ukah, who was represented by the Chief Inspector of
Education (CIE) Ika North-East Local Government Area, Mrs Juliet Sorokwu in
Igbodo community.

Remarking, Ukah commended CHISOSA for the intervention, stressing that the
gesture was a demonstration of their concern for students of their alma mater,
even as he urged schools to maintain cordiality with the association of their
former students.

Being the first major project undertaken by the alumni association, the
representative of CHISOSA Board of Trustees (BoT), Dr Dumebi Ideh, said that the
project was necessitated following the decay of infrastructure due to poor
funding.

He appealed for the continued support of rural public schools by the State
Government, even as he called on other former students of the school who were
yet to identify with the alumni association to do so.
‘’We appeal to the management and staff of our great school to see to it that
these chairs and tables are kept in good condition. We, as old students, are willing
to give back to the school that made us.
‘’We encourage the students to take their studies more seriously, they should
remain focused as education is life and it is the main road to achieving one’s full
potentials in life’’ he said.

Also corroborating Ideh, were the Vice-Chairman of CHISOSA Project Committee
and Pioneer Head-Girl of the School, Mrs Augustina Ebenuwa who made the
presentation and a member of the committee, Mr Martins Okocha.
An alumnus of the school, Mr Nkem Nweke, echoed that the intervention was in
line with the Stronger Delta vision of Governor Ifeanyi Okowa, just as he
envisaged more projects by CHISOSA in the nearest future.

Meanwhile Principal of the school, Mr Mathias Okolie recalled that, hitherto the
donation, about 80 per cent of the students had no such luxury, as he expressed
gratitude to CHISOSA for the donations.

Accordingly, the Parents/Teachers’ Association (PTA) of the school represented by
its Public Relations Officer (PRO), Mr Solomon Azi thanked CHISOSA for the
donations, promising that the desks would be put to judicious use.

On behalf of the students who were visibly enthused about their new desks, the
Senior Prefect, Kelvin Iloba, prayed God to reward their benefactors and replenish
their resources.
