Wife of Delta State Governor, Dame Edith Okowa has called on women to desist from fighting themselves and rather pursue a life of purpose.
She made the call when spouses of chairpersons in the 25 local government areas in the state paid her a courtesy visit in her office at Government House, Asaba.
The governor’s wife congratulated the spouses on their husbands victory in the just concluded local government elections in the state, with a that they should realise the purpose for which they are there and impact the lives of the people at the grassroots level.
Dame Okowa also charged them to key into her pet project, adding that so far, the 05 Initiative has established 15 sickle cell clinics in the state.
She encouraged the women to be role models to other women, and stop pulling fellow women down.
The governor’s wife enjoined them to work together and generate ideas that will be helpful to their husbands, even in their current positions.
She siezed the opportunity to applaud women for having more interest in politics as 17 females made vice chairpersons and 86 as councillors in the just concluded March 6 local government elections.
For these women, the visit will go a long way in helping them to actualise their dream projects in their different local governnent areas.
They unanimously thanked the wife of the governor for her efforts at ensuring that women at the grassroots level are always empowered via her pet project.
Speaking on behalf of the women, wife of the Chairman, Uvwie LGA, Mrs. Onoyake Rachael, extended her appreciation to the Her Excellency while promising continued collaboration to ensure that women at the grassroots are fully carried along.
“We appreciate how you welcomed us and are equally grateful for what you’ve been doing for Delta women and we assure you that we will work with you to ensure that the positive developments you have initiated continue,” Mrs. Onoyake said.
