The Delta State Government has dismissed insinuation of infighting among members of the State Executive Council, insisting the reports are false and aimed at derailing Governor Sheriff Oborevwori’s development drive.
Addressing journalists in Asaba, Commissioner for Works (Rural Roads) and Public Information, Mr. Charles Aniagwu, described the rumours as a distraction engineered by critics who could not fault the governor’s performance.
“Since they cannot attack the governor on performance, they resort to falsehood. There was no fight between commissioners. Nobody in government has blamed the administration for anything. These stories are baseless and never happened,” Aniagwu said.
He stressed that the administration remained focused on projects and empowerment initiatives designed to cushion economic hardship and open new opportunities for citizens.
Among the programmes currently running, Aniagwu listed the Rural Youth Skills Acquisition (RYSA) scheme, the MORE Biz-Up initiative, the Women Empowerment Scheme, ICT training, and girl-child support interventions.
He also highlighted the newly launched Widows’ Welfare Scheme, under which beneficiaries receive ₦15,000 monthly stipends and health insurance. At the programme’s kickoff, each of the 10,000 widows enrolled was paid ₦45,000 upfront, representing three months’ allowance.
Aniagwu further disclosed that more empowerment initiatives would commence in October once the rainy season subsides, enabling the state to channel resources into ventures that strengthen the local economy and grow the GDP.
On infrastructure, he pointed to the ₦59.7 billion Uromi Junction flyover in Agbor, the ₦39.3 billion Otovwodo Junction flyover in Ughelli, the ₦35 billion Effurun–Sapele Road dualisation, and several supplementary road interventions across the state. He added that projects in Warri, Abraka, and Asaba — including road and school rehabilitation — were being executed based on needs assessment to ensure value for money.
Reaffirming government’s commitment to the MORE Agenda, Aniagwu maintained that the administration would not be distracted by what he called “discordant voices” determined to misinform the public.
